DId some more looking around,, guess what,,, latitude 530 is has exactly the same hardware as the dell d520 . Win 7 works fine on it, just had to use the win default drivers and of course the custom option for the install,,,You will have to back up the hd drive so you don't loose any file you wish to keep, and some of your xp programs may not work unless there are up grades for them, so you will need to have the disks to reinstall them or up date them. don't forget that you may have to update printers/scanners might not work with out win 7 ndrivers so check with the manufacturer .Looks like win 7 will work for you. I checked and it says will not support Windows 7. My budget doesn't stretch to a new laptop just now....is there something else that I might use on this laptop for more secure operation. I use this for a kind of back-up for pictures and documents, FTM and other things, but it is not my main computer. I did add more memory to it last year....it now has 2GB of memory. This has been a lifesaver in the past when my desktop had problems. I would like to keep it working the best possible.
