Went to our Staples with a minor problem with my computer. He ran diagnostics on my machine; told me I had over 38 virus and malware problems with my computer..and wanted to show me new computers. I asked to see the screen that showed all the problems, but he said he had "shut it off". About then I told him that I did a complete scan once a week with my virus program and if that many things were missed, I would be very surprised. We left. At least in our area, they don't do any computer work at their stores; it is farmed out to other sources... I wouldn't go back again.... Told me to just keep using it as long as I could. Not very helpful I must say - Oh they did recommend Microsoft Security Essentials to replace my free AVG Anti-virus program which expired too. A lot of my trouble started with Rogers changes to settings so they are coming in on Saturday to check about their anti-virus program which I don't know or remember about. Plus to bring in adaptor for my digital TV to work. However - would anyone have any experience with Wise Care 365 or the AVG regular anti-virus programs? I got AVG to download another free program in the meantime. Am looking for one that is most cost efficient??? A second question is why my regular keyboard won't work. Number lock light and volume controls only work. Am using a temportary large lettered keyboard that just plugs into USB port to type this. Seems to me if the two keys mentioned work its getting power, right? Any comments appreciated until I can get hold of Staples tech either Saturday or Monday. cheers Joyce ******************** Gen-Newbie's website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~newbie/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GEN-NEWBIE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
I bought a HP printer, top of the line at Staples a couple of years ago. Also bought a separate warranty from them as well as the warranty from HP. Every time I turned it on it made a very loud unusual noise as if something were rubbing against each other. I put up with it for two months because every told me it was normal. Then my husband heard it one day and felt it might be gears making the noise. I took it back to Staple to have them look at if and fix it. They listened to it and agreed there was a problem but said I needed to contact HP and ship it back to them to have if fixed. I showed them the warranty that I had bought from Staples assuring me that they would fix any problems. They said they couldn't HP had to fix it. After much hassle with HP over the phone and having my tech go over each detail for the problem, they finally agreed to send me a new printer, which of course was a rebuilt printer. It was agreed by HP and my tech that the gears were making the noise. The day before my new printer arrived, my printer made a terrible noise as the gears completely stripped in half and could not function. It was 3 months old by then. I would never buy another product from Staples because of this experience. I don't trust them after selling me a warranty to take care of "any" problem that would arise with the printer and refusing to do anything when they could tell there was a definite problem with the printer. Just sounding off here on this subject. I won't go back there either. Oh yes, the second computer lasted almost two years and then I went to Best Buy to buy another printer.
