    3. Trinity Journal Weaverville, Ca. 1889 Excerpts from the “Early Days along the River, by T.E. JONES. Dated: 31, August 1889. 1.) In the summer of 1889, the river traveler who has occasion to cross the Trinity River at almost any part from Lewiston down, will not fail to observe the air of almost utter desolation prevailing. Here and there some little place, which has escaped the pick if a miner, has been taken possession of, by some agriculturist and made to blossom at the Rose. 2.) But as a general thing, the debris brought down by floods, or the heavy wash poured into the river valley proper from the high bench or hill mines, has left a character of deposit unpon which none, but the most hearty kinds of vegetation can flourish. 3.) Dreary as are these stretches of the river’s valley, where one may travel for miles, without seeing another human face or the evidence of a human habitation, the time is not to far back, but there are many yet living who cam remember, when those river bars, now lone and deserted, were the homes of hundreds of busy miners. 18,March 1889 County Officials Directory; Superior Judge T.E.
