I don't see how the information would be considered 'not' insensitive if one has to pay to see it. It might have been more humane if they worded it differently. I can think of several ways they should have worded it, but none would change the outcome. I've long worried they were going to start charging for uploading family trees. melissa On Tue, Dec 13, 2011 at 9:42 AM, Judi Henkel <heeyjude@yahoo.com> wrote: > > http://searches.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ssdi.html > > Did you guys know this was going to happen? > > I didn't. I do not believe the issue was pay/no pay, but rather that the Rootsweb version of SSDI was not being updated frequently enough to comply with the Government's new requirements (i.e. the sensitivity). The SSDI database on Ancestry (as well as others, like GenealogyBank) are updated monthly (GenealogyBank is actually updated weekly), thus, if the Government removes names from the SSDI, the versions on these sites will be in compliance with the new rules. - illya Illya J.
