Congrats Marilyn!!!! I'm sure you will be more than happy,,,It may take a little getting used to win7, but it will all make sense the more you use it,. Add remove programs should be able to take care of all your MS needs. However you might have a bit of a problem locating where it is in win7. Click on the start globe located at the bottom right of your machine, than click on control panel and you will see it listed just as programs. Nortons can be a difficult situation, and I therefore recommend people download the Norton Removal Tool from http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN&ln=en_US. If you use this you won't have to mess with the registry, and it is much safer.. I do also suggest that you get rid of Nortons before you install any programs that have a data base . Sync programs like ACT etc,,In fact I wouldn't transfer anything to the new machine until you have it set up with security software /malware & Av . If you have the choice go with 64bit OS.. Bigger pipe , more memory options available, and just about all 32 bit programs will run on it.. But before you do decide take a few minutes to look at any piecs of equipment you plan to attache to the system,,,are they 64bit compatible,,,Most external HD are not going to be a problem,,,likely problem devices will be printers ,scanners and combo devices... In some case they may only work with basic functions, and the case of combo devices not all may work. A visit to the manufactures website should tell you whether they are compatible. Lastly seeing how this is a laptop, I would use MS security essentials ,,it's fast , good, fully compatible has a small foot print. A copy of malware bytes in case you ever need it, same for CCleaner, and if you want real time malware protection down load a copy of SuperAntiSpyware( free) it will provide auto update and real-time protection. Now would be a good time to run CCleaner in default settings. Your not done yet,,, you will want to make sure you have the latest updates for Adobe reader and flash player and Macro media. Lastly download all the OS updates,,,I suggest not installing IE9 just yet,, Although it is a much faster browser than IE8 and has a lot of good new features, it is a significant change from what you are probable used to and I think you have enough new stuff to get used to. Marilyn just ordered a new laptop computer. I have been using a good friend's spare PC for about 6 months and am so ready for one of my own. What a good friend, none better. It is a: *Toshiba Satellite C655-S5193 15.6" Notebook* * * *Any comments would be welcome, good or bad. Now I have lots of questions. * * * *First one is one that has been discussed just recently but I need one of the gurus to give me a step by step instruction sheet for removing the Nortons Security, thirty day free trial. Small steps, please. I want to remove that the very first thing. * * * *Next, I want to remove the Microsoft Office free trial. Will Revo Uninstaller be capable of doing that?* * * *What is the difference between 64 and 32 bit?* * * *The new computer should arrive in 5 to 8 days. Then I am sure there will be more questions.* * * *TIA* * * *Marilyn * -- "If you don't get outside every day, even for a minute, you have not appreciated what God has done. George and others, my grand daughter is getting the same computer for Christmas and I am going to walk her through the set up. I am sending her your message but I can not remember if I uninstalled the Norton mess before or after I made the backup disc's. Which should I tell her to do first?
