Maxine, Google is changing the appearance of gmail. You can opt in to change 'now', or you can change later. 'Later' they are changing everyone anyway. Or so they say. I personally didn't like the 'new' look so I switched back. When they switch me to the new version I'll probably be just fine, I just don't like most changes until I get used to them.
