    3. Subject: External hard drive not recognized by computer I have a Samsung ATA external hard drive on which once a month I back up my files. My computer is not recognizing the external hard drive. I have plugged, and replugged. When I plug it up, I get a message "Installing device driver software" then a msg that the device is ready to use. However, the Generic Drive X which is the hard drive is not recognized but F which is a removable disk in disk drive. There is no way that I can bring up the external hard drive. I have always very careful to unplug as directed. I went into Control Panel and under Disk Drives both a Generic External USB Device is listed as well as a Samsung ATA. Both say they are working properly. However when I try to bring up the "volume" in either, it reflects nothing as though there is nothing on the drive, or else it is not being recognized. Can anyone help? Wanda
