    1. Re: [GN] Ghost towns
    2. My father grew up in Boardman, Oregon, along the Columbia River. In 1957, historic Celilo Falls, "the oldest continuously inhabited community on the North American continent" [Wikipedia] and nearby settlements, including part of Boardman, were submerged by the construction of The Dalles Dam. I believe the cemetery was moved; if not, I'm guessing there's a lot of of ghostly memories submerged there too. I know that my grandparents' house was submerged. Some dams are being removed along the river, but I don't know if this one is. Connie ----- Original Message ----- Also, in Tennessee, the Tennessee Valley Authority did something similar. We traveled through the area years ago and heard stories that the submerged towns were a skin divers dream.
