Hi Linda Magic jack explains on their website how to use it. you must plug it into the USB port of your computer, then you can connect a phone to the other end of Magic Jack. It's not a land line, it operates on the VOIP principal so you can't plug it into a phone jack. Magic Jack PLUS (it's new) does not require a computer to work. For MJ PLUS you simply plug it directly into a router and a normal electrical outlet I have MJ, love it but recently ordered MJ PLUS as I want to have access 24/7 without leaving my computer on.
