I am not sure this subject line has sufficient clarity to describe my problem, so here is what I want to do: In XP, I take the file entitled John Jones Work (for example) and click on Save As John Jones Work 2. The identical copy of John Jones Work 2 enabled me to edit, add/delete/adjust footnotes/endnotes, etc. without the possibility of losing either data or formatting of original article. Save As does not do that same thing in Win7, 64 bit machine. If that same thing (duplicate copy, totally editable) can be done using Office '07 in Win7, 64 bit, how do I accomplish this desired task? TIA Fred, Sr. Yes, I have read the Archives back three months and have googled duplicate copy/Save As/etc with some very interesting results, but not what I need.
Fred Don't know why this is not working. I do it all the time. But, maybe a little differently. My remembory doesn't always work. Open up the document/spreadsheet in the program. Click on the windows. Choose "Save As..." Give the new file a different name, and location if you wish. Close the files. Open up your program and then open up your new file. It may be that if you have file A up, do a "save as" and do not then close down that file, the new one doesn't appear. Seems to me that before, when you did a "save as" to a file open on your computer, it changed the name of that file, rather than keeping the original up. Pat, from your description in last paragraph, I believe that is what I have been doing, so perhaps trying to "save as" with your suggestions will do the job for me. I appreciate your time and help. Fred, I am not sure if you have an application problem or not, but the easiest way to duplicate a file independent of any application, is this... Outside of any application, locate the file and select with a single-left-click, and then do any of the following... Press CTRL + C then CTRL + V or Right-click and choose 'Copy', then right-click and choose 'Paste' Either way you will duplicate the file. You can then name it anything you like... Press F2 or right-click and choose 'Rename' Les Hardy On 28/11/11 19:24, Fred Powell, Sr. wrote: > I am not sure this subject line has sufficient clarity to describe my > problem, so here is what I want to do: > > In XP, I take the file entitled John Jones Work (for example) and click on > Save As John Jones Work 2.
