    3. Fred Basically, it has to do with who gets to look at the documents. If you have another computer, and they are connected through a network, you can choose which files each computer can see on the other. Personally, I have full sharing on both computers, so it is meaningless to me. Everything is under documents or pictures. Pat In Tucson -----Original Message----- From: gen-newbie-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gen-newbie-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Fred Powell, Sr. Sent: Monday, November 14, 2011 12:35 PM To: gen-newbie@rootsweb.com Subject: [GN] Public documents in Win7 I am hoping someone will explain to me the meaning of _Public Documents_ when those show in Win 7, 64 bit? Having used XP for a long time, only My Documents showed in Win Explorer. Now with this computer, there are Libraries, Documents and Public Documents, plus several other things new to me. In study of the materials that came with this computer, I find no reference to Public Documents. The feeds from Microsoft have so far not addressed Public Documents. Attempting to input correct words/phrases into google produced thousands of hits but none addressed the subject of interest. TIA for any and all help. 3. Pat, many thanks for your response to my inquiry. I, however, wish to deny access to some of my work. How do I remove the Public Documents? How did they become public? As you and other readers of this column know, creating another type of document is beyond my skills. Thanks for your time and reply. 3. There is an excellent discussion of how the libraries and documents work, at http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/developers/archive/2009/04/06/understanding-windows-7-libraries.aspx I recommend that anyone using Win7 read it. 3. I am sorry, this is the link I meant to post for libraries. The other is aimed at developers, though it also is interesting. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee449413(WS.10).aspx Ellaine The smaller the mind the greater the conceit. --Aesop Hello Sr. On Thursday, November 17, 2011, you wrote > Pat, many thanks for your response to my > inquiry.
