    3. John if I am reading this correctly, the BIL is likely your wife's brother. Now the son is from another marriage/relationship of the mother; so no blood relationship to your BIL, your wife or you. However, blood relationship is very often not how we think of those we love. I have two grandchildren that would be considered my son's stepchildren but to him they are his children and to me they are my grandchildren. Now my genealogy program will list them as step - whatever.
