One actually can do the n-cousin x-removed in your head. Two people count the number of generations back to their first common ancestor; the least number generations less two is the 'n' and the difference of the two generation counts is 'x' the number of removes. So George is 7 generations back to the common ancestor; and Mary is 5 generation back to the common ancestor; then George and Mary are third cousins twice removed. Grand children and grand nephews and nieces do not have removes and the grand level is a simple count back.
