    3. Sidney, You're absolutely right. It does sound complicated, but there's a reason for that. There are so many different combinations of what someone may want to export/import. The problem for someone giving the instructions, is how much information to include. I have a wealth of information to give, but if I include too much of it, the instructions get bloated and complicated. Bespoke instructions are always best. That's why groups like gen-newbie are so valuable. If I give you step by step instructions for your own situation, it will not seem so complicated. I sent off-list instructions to Rudy, as I have done with others. Tell me exactly what you want to do, and I will try to take you through it, a step at a time. If there is ever a step you do not understand, just ask, and I will give more information. Les Hardy On 25/12/11 04:20, Sydney Cardner wrote: > I have been looking for a way to do it. 3. Les, off-list is nice but it is not kind to the lurkers who are reluctant to post. Perhaps you could still share with the list for those people. Elaine How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire? Hello Les On Sunday, December 25, 2011, you wrote > Sidney, > You're absolutely right. 1. Re: [GN] Method of moving OE to Thunderbird? Meant Windows Mail.

    3. Hi Les, Thanks for the reply. I should have asked how to transfer Windows Mail to Thunderbird, not OE. I have emails I have saved in folders from as early as 1998 on my genealogy research. I hate to lose them as I move from one version to another. I was able to transfer all the Outlook Express mail from my XP computer to my Windows Vista computer via Windows Mail and Express Assist (a paid program I love). But soon I will move on to Windows 7. From what I understand Windows Live Mail will import Windows Mail, but I am hearing many don't care for it. Since I can't seem to find any screenshots, I can't make judgement until I make the move to Windows 7. I have been researching programs available to move Windows Mail to Thunderbird, and the options have looked bleak. The page I linked to my query looks so easy, way too easy. I was wondering if someone had used it and had it do well. http://support.real-time.com/tbird/oe_import.html It appears to be referring to the Thunderbird directions. Here are the directions at the Mozilla site for importing other mail into Thunderbird. It does not look that easy. http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=switching-thunderbird-windows-or-web-based-email-a#w_importing-windows-mail-messages I am also wondering how the Windows Mail will look in Thunderbird...if it will appear in readable format or some archived version. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Les Hardy" <les@webmayo.com> To: <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 25, 2011 5:49 AM Subject: Re: [GN] Has anyone tried this method of moving OE to Thunderbird? > Sidney, > You're absolutely right.
