Hi All - I have a 4gb Lexar to plug into computer, but when I do it doesn't show up on its own accord on my desktop. What do I have to do to find and select it so that I can download some information from it? Joyce
Hi Gang; I have 3 different sets of phones hooked up in my in my home at this time. 1) a HARD line, so that thee is always a dial tone to the outside, 2) 3 cordless units, with mesgs intake, one for each bedroom and main bath, and my p/c is wireless. 3) cell phone, for use when I drive the 150 miles to treatment. Why? my illness leaves me weak at times and neighbors are close as phone as it 911 if that bad. All this works off of Verizon single home line. Isn’t technology wonderful? Yes you can buy a cordless phone and also have a deprecate base for the second phone in her room. Just remember though that if the electricity goes out so does the phone. You might get her a regular phone she can plug in if this happens. It's a nice backup in cases if emergencies. Just a thought for you. My mom encountered this when electricity went out. Also make sure the ringer is turned on. :) we found this out the hard way when we tried to get ahold of her during the storms up north. Hope this helps. Hi Linda, So sorry you are ill. I have a landline and several mobile phones so I can take one into the bathroom (no hook up), and have one beside the bed and one in the den. Landline in kitchen. I am not sick but, I like the security of all the phones, in case I fall or get sick. You just never know. Hope you get better soon. You and I emailed a couple of times, a couple years back. I have Mocks in my family tree on my Dad's side. Get better, and thanks for all you helpful emails to Gen-Newbie. Joyce, The only cookies you may want to keep are the ones that provide a convenience to you, such as cookies for ancestry, facebook, and any other program you use that you want to recognize you and save time logging in. If all cookies are deleted, the only problem is that it can take a bit more time logging into sites you use that require logins. In some cases the site may provide the user name, and in other cases the site lets you in immediately without login. I have about 20 - 25 cookies that I tell CCleaner to keep. I don't know about the IE cookies, but no problem if they're deleted. IE will replace them anyway if the site is accessed. Woody ============= In a message dated 2/19/2014 6:27:26 P.M. My IE 11 works for everything but videos. It just will not run them on anywhere, including Facebook. I tried numerous fixes with no success. A guru commented on my FB post that IE 11 is very buggy. The bug appears to have started on a security update for IE 11. The way I have to get videos to run is to use Google Chrome or another browser.. I don't know why there has been little or no news discussion about IE 11, but on a grass roots level, it's problems are becoming well known. Sorry for this dumb question . I need to buy a cordless phone for a senior lady who lives alone. I'm unfamiliar with these phones and would appreciate help. There's only one phone jack and it's in in the living room so....can she take cordless phone for the night into the bedroom after it charges all day in 'base' in l. room? It will stay charged overnight for emergency calls if needed? Thanks a lot - ! Kelly
Joyce, I'm not familiar with CCleaner summary results. It took me a while to figure out how CCleaner handles cookies. Here's how to sort the cookies into "delete" and "keep": -- In CCleaner, click on "Options" (the gear looking thingy) -- Click on "Cookies" -- That brings up two columns, "Cookies to Delete" on the left and "Cookies to keep" on the right. All cookies are shown in the "Cookies to Delete" side until you shove them over to the right side (Cookies to keep). In the middle area between the columns are arrows to push cookies from one side to the other. So, on the left side, highlight a cookie you recognize that you'd like to keep and shove to the right using the arrow, such as: rogers.com avg.com skype.com ancestry.com pandora.com etc You may have multiple cookies for some sites, such as accounts.google.com google.com So you need to look for multiple entries from the same site. The "Cookies to delete" are deleted when you run "Cleaner". All web sites have changed their cookie format to a new standard over the last year or two so that it is complex and difficult to recognize or interpret the "new format" cookies. Fortunately, CCleaner interprets these cookies and presents them in a simple, easily recognizable format, such as "skype.com" and "rogers.com". I use ccleaner regularly and today I have 11 cookies there but how do I know which ones I would need. I use Firefox on Gmail and the cookies show opposite Internet Explorer. I just viewed summary results and one example is: C:\Documents and Settings\User.USER-745\Cookies\*00EBICBA*.txt 1KB there are 10 like this one just the highlighted numbers change. The last one after -745\Local Settings\Application Date\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore\88VRQQ2R\toolbar.avg{1}.xml Perhaps the last one is the only one I need to keep?? Suzy, Use the reset button and reset the password. You will then at least be able to access the account and prevent anyone else using it. You may also be able to remove any details about you. I can't say if you would be able to cancel the account. If nomorerack is as bad as people suggest, then they probably don't allow closing accounts. I can say one thing for certain, nomorerack only allow a single instance of an email address to be registered, and your current email address is definitely registered there. So if you can access it, no-one else will be able to use the same email address again. I once had a similar problem. I could access an account, but I could not remove my email address. I could only change it to another. So, I created a temporary fictitious email address somewhere else (can't remember where), and change the email address to that. To All List members: I haven't been on the computer much for well over a year & am really overwhelmed by what seems to have resulted from my attempt to get a little active again, instead of just Facebook. Again, I apologize for any problems or inconvenience this has caused. Kathleen: I was not judging you in any way. I sincerely apologize if anything I said came off that way. I also have to apologize for telling you it wasn't spam, it was hacking. I was wrong: it was indeed spam. Just the day before I had been advised by Google that I had suspicious activity on my account (a different gmail account), which they had blocked. It had come from Brazil. They advised me to change my password, which I did & ran scans on my computer. So maybe I was over-sensitive. That is not your problem & again, I apologize if anything I said came off as judging you. Les: it tickled me that you checked with the site itself & made me do the same thing. I honestly couldn't say I was or wasn't a registered user, as I've had this email account for a long time & it's certainly possible. You indicated that I am a registered user & I'm now the curious one. I went to the site & attempted to Log In, put in my email address & hit forgot password. It gave me a reset button (which is a terrible way to run a website, in my opinion) or to sign in with Facebook. I just left it at that. So, do I go back to the site, make up a password & then unsub, or what? I have changed my passwords & run every kind of scan I know of several times. I really don't know what else I can do & welcome any suggestions if anyone knows or can think of anything else to do. I am sincerely sorry.
