    3. Sorry Les - something told me last night that I should not clear my trash. Actually this was a second email from Nomoerack (in Suzanne's name) and it was a reminder that I had been invited to join. If I get another email I will cut and paste and send it to you. Thanks for the tip on checking my account settings - will do that this morning. I hope you nail these guys. 3. Yvonne, if you still have the email in thunderbird, please click on View>Message Source, copy and paste the source into an email, and send it to me. ( not to the list ) I will be able to tell from the mail headers where it came from. I have been trying to find out what nomorerack's game is. What I know so far... Nomorerack can take control of your email account. I created a mail account at Yahoo and allowed nomorerack to access it. Nomorerack can change my profile, use or change contact lists etc. I am not sure if it can send emails directly from the mail account, but I suspect it can. The contact list in the account that I let nomorerack take over has only my own pretend contacts in it. So I will know when they try to use it. Only Hotmail,Gmail, Yahoo and Aol accounts seem to be vunerable. They also seems to have something going on with facebook contacts. I don't use facebook, so I don't know about that. Anyone with one of the above accounts should go into their setting and check that there is no third party access allowed. In Yahoo:- Settings > Accounts > Edit Your Account Info >Manage App and Website Connections. In Gmail:- Settings > Accounts > Grant access to your account. I am 99% sure that nomorerack cannot take over private mail accounts. I tested with a mail account at webmayo.com and nomorerack choked on it. 3. I registered at nomorerack a few weeks ago because a friend told me she does actually buy some things through them. With moving, I was looking for a new bedding set for the queen mattress that will be the guest bedroom and a few other things. I use Gmail and that is the email address with which I registered. During the process, there were some things automatically checked (like notifying your contacts through access of the address book in your email mail) that I unchecked. I am not saying that this is what happened to everyone but at least in my case, permission for them to access my address book was presented as optional. To my knowledge, no one received any messages from nomorerack that were driven by my registration. I haven't bought a thing from them because I mentioned I was looking there to another friend and she told me she did order a couple of things from them and the items did not appear to be like pictured and were poor quality. ===== Kathleen Bowen Simons Lorton, Virginia On Sun, Feb 23, 2014 at 2:57 AM, Les Hardy <les@webmayo.com> wrote: > Yvonne, if you still have the email in thunderbird, please click on > View>Message Source, copy and paste the source into an email, and send it > to me. 1. [GN] Gmail deletes your own post to Rootsweb -- need a fix?
    2. Woody Woodworth
    3. I've posted this fix a few years back: When you send a post to a Rootsweb list, such as Gen-Newbie, Rootsweb sends it out to all on the list but you don't get that post back that you sent. That's frustrating as you have a copy that you sent in your "sent" folder, but you don't if Rootweb actually got it and sent it out unless you check the Rootsweb archives, or if someone comments on your post and it is included. Or at least that's the way it used to work. Gmail thinks someone forged your name on the e-mail, so they delete it outright and don't even put copy in your spam folder. If Gmail is still doing that, I have a fix for that. Does anyone need that fix? Woody http://www.woodworth-ancestors.com http://www.minco-ok.com

    2. Woody, This is exactly right but it does annoy me. I am sick of all the spam popping up when I am in the process of doing some important work and don't want to lose it which happens sometimes. 3. If you're using IE 11, that could be the problem. Help sites are full of complaints that IE 11 won't play videos and other problems. I can't get PDF files to come up on IE 11. If I bring the same sites up on Google Chrome, there's no problem. MS help suggestions do not fix anything, others have reported, and I've tried those suggestions with no success. . Have always been able to go to IRS.gov, open the form and type in the information. Now when I try it (on 2 different computers), the form just rotates to the left, and I can’t do a thing. Would someone try this out and see if it’s somehow me (like a virus) or the IRS? Otherwise, has that changed and you can no longer do that? Connie ********************

    2. Marilyn, The page is not in my email so I cannot delete it. They on only Drafts file and my Spam file but not in my email. They are just a full page of advertisements with no way to get rid of it. I don't know how else to explain it to you. This is not in my email, it just takes up a full page in my Drafts and my Spam. If you have AOL you will see these files on the left side your New Mail to open your emails. Perhaps I am calling them my the wrong name when I refer to them as files. What do you think? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I still have my AOL email and I checked it this morning and even tho I had nothing else there from Gen-Newbie, I did have the one message from nomorerack. I merely hit the button mark as spam, followed the prompts and was rid of the message. Once again I saw the message to click on to receive no more messages. Why haven't you used that to stop the messages if they bother you so much. I remember from earlier messages that someone tried this and followed through to be sure their name had been removed and it had. 3. Well Janet, I just looked in my Spam Folder - I use Thunderbird through G-mail - I have also received an invitation from Nomoerack via Suzanne's name. Sorry Suzanne that some creep has invaded your privacy. When I see things like this in an email I have made it a policy to never never click on any link. The link informing you that you can opt out by clicking on it is scary on it's own. Good luck Janet - I certainly hope you can conquer this mess. Yvonne

    3. Janet, I can't help you because I don't know anything about AOL and after reading about what you are going through I don't want to. I agree with you it is a huge problem - much more than an annoyance - and I would contact AOL and get one of their techs to help me get rid of this blight. If they say they can't help then I would, for darn sure, use another program. Good Luck, Yvonne On 2/22/2014 4:55 PM, wstjs@aol.com wrote: > From Janet: > > > This is exactly right but it does annoy me. I am sick of all the spam popping up when I am in the process of doing some important work and don't want to lose it which happens sometimes. Thanks for a better explanation of the problem. I was calling a folder a file which was incorrect. Guess I will just have to put up with it. > > From Woody: > Subject: Re: [GN] Fwd: email to Suzanne Kohl > > I have AOL, and I see the problem. It's not really a problem but rather > an annoyance from "Advertising Gone Wild" AOL. When you send an e-mail, an AOL page comes up that tells you your e-mail has been sent and then it routinely fills that "your mail has been sent" page with advertising. My "your e-mail has been sent" page is currently plastered with "overstock.com" advertising. Then, when you open any folder that is empty, such as your spam folder or draft folder, a big page tells you that folder is empty, and along with the "this folder is empty" page, that page is crammed full of stupid advertising. My "this folder is empty" message is chock full of advertising from, again, > "overstock.com". > > > Woody > > > -----Original Message----- > From: wstjs <wstjs@aol.com> > To: gen-newbie <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sat, Feb 22, 2014 5:34 pm > Subject: Re: [GN] Fwd: email to Suzanne Kohl > > Marilyn, > > The page is not in my email so I cannot delete it.
