    3. I want to share a site that even living in Manhattan I was unaware of: Watson House ( .org) It was a mission down near Castle Garden ( lower Manhattan) run by the Catholic Church for single Irish women coming in to NYC. The site has searchable records and an online exhibition. Even the press articles are fascinating to read! Apparently Irish siblings might come to America but never reform as families once here hence single young women needing shelter and jobs. Thought it might help someone to find a relative... 3. Becarefull installing Slim drivers,,It does a good job, but it wants to install a couple of other programs that can lead to browser hijackings and re directs, Uncheck them. It will also bug you to buy the proversion and only updates one driver ata time in the free version. That is a minor inconvenience as far as I am concerned and it has seldom failed to locate the latest drivers. 1. Re: [GN] Desktop computer problems - AVG & Keyboard
    2. I bought a HP printer, top of the line at Staples a couple of years ago. Also bought a separate warranty from them as well as the warranty from HP. Every time I turned it on it made a very loud unusual noise as if something were rubbing against each other. I put up with it for two months because every told me it was normal. Then my husband heard it one day and felt it might be gears making the noise. I took it back to Staple to have them look at if and fix it. They listened to it and agreed there was a problem but said I needed to contact HP and ship it back to them to have if fixed. I showed them the warranty that I had bought from Staples assuring me that they would fix any problems. They said they couldn't HP had to fix it. After much hassle with HP over the phone and having my tech go over each detail for the problem, they finally agreed to send me a new printer, which of course was a rebuilt printer. It was agreed by HP and my tech that the gears were making the noise. The day before my new printer arrived, my printer made a terrible noise as the gears completely stripped in half and could not function. It was 3 months old by then. I would never buy another product from Staples because of this experience. I don't trust them after selling me a warranty to take care of "any" problem that would arise with the printer and refusing to do anything when they could tell there was a definite problem with the printer. Just sounding off here on this subject. I won't go back there either. Oh yes, the second computer lasted almost two years and then I went to Best Buy to buy another printer. 3. It won't play all videos, but in a pinch you might get lucky,,Any video converter will convert formats, but be aware it will try to install additional software, during setup, so uncheck those boxes so it doesn't,, Also it will bug you to buy the full ultimate version,,VlLC is a good video player that will play most formats.. Freemake Video Converter will also do some limited editing,, again watch for other unwanted software installs at setup...I use Cyberlink producer, which is probable over kill for most on this list, and it is definitely not free, and is my choice seeing how I can build a computer for the updated version of adobe cs. 1. [GN] alternative movie maker for windows movie maker?
    2. I probably have asked this several times before, but hoping someone who is still using windows XP and their installed windows movie maker has found an alternative to the installed movie maker. My installed works most of the time but has limited use. I like to make 10-20 minute video games where I can add pictures, movie clips , cartoons, and songs and separate each with title windows,. Several of the free ones I have recently downloaded won't do all that or are too hard to figure out.So..hoping someone with windows XP has found a good movie maker program alternative(free or paid). In the summer of 1889, the river traveler who has occasion to cross the Trinity River at almost any part from Lewiston down, will not fail to observe the air of almost utter desolation prevailing. Here and there some little place, which has escaped the pick if a miner, has been taken possession of, by some agriculturist and made to blossom at the Rose. 2.) But as a general thing, the debris brought down by floods, or the heavy wash poured into the river valley proper from the high bench or hill mines, has left a character of deposit unpon which none, but the most hearty kinds of vegetation can flourish. 3.) Dreary as are these stretches of the river’s valley, where one may travel for miles, without seeing another human face or the evidence of a human habitation, the time is not to far back, but there are many yet living who cam remember, when those river bars, now lone and deserted, were the homes of hundreds of busy miners. 18,March 1889 County Officials Directory; Superior Judge T.E. 3. Wayne I have been wondering. Im about to back up to a external hard drive. I lot of photos will be backed up again. I have added more to the folders. Should I just delete the ones I have on the external H D because they will be added again on this back up? 3. By burn a dvd/cd, I mean copying the files to a dvd or cd. Obviously, you will need a dvd/cd player that will write to a blank disk, and most if not all that have been installed in the last 8-10 years will also write. What I do is insert the blank disk in the drawer and using Windows Explorer, create a new folder, copy all the files you want to save into that folder. Then do a select all and click and drag the files to the dvd/cd. They will then copy them and when you are sure the disk has been properly written (check on another computer if you have one available), delete the folder that you built. Wayne, I am not your correspondent but you have reminded me of a question I need to ask:what is meant to "burn a DVD? My computer skill is next to non-existent and info on web is tech-type. Thank you for any consideration you may give to directing me to very simple source of information.
