On the Microsoft site there is a compatibility checker that you download and run. It will show you if your computer is ready to be upgraded or if you need to update programs or take off non compatible programs. I will find the link you and send it through. > Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2014 13:26:14 +1100 > From: petergoggin@bigpond.com > To: gen-newbie@rootsweb.com > Subject: [GN] Upgrades from XP to windows 8 > > I have four Lenovo laptops - X61S, W500,T400 all running XP and X201 > running windows 7. > How do I find out if these can all be upgraded to Windows 8.? > Any help greatly appreciated. Found the site and the search link. http://1940census.archives.gov/search/#searchby=location&searchmode=browse&year=1940 When I put in your state, county, city and street, then it comes up with the ED and I clicked on your ED #. The first page comes up, but then, since it is not indexed by name, you need to use the previous or next boxes at the top right of the screen. I found your people at the bottom of image 17 - West Isaac and Olla and on the top of image 18 are the two daughters. You can use the Jump to box and put in 17 and click on GO, then use the NEXT box for image 18. To see the entire page, you need to click and drag the image up and down. Just FYI, On Image 4 - the last person is West, Clyde and the top of image 5 is his wife West, Frances G. Do not know if they are related, just thought I'd throw that out, since I found them. :-) Hope this is what you wanted. Joy On 3/25/2014 5:01 PM, Rick Powell wrote: Thank you! Here's the one I have on my website. Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I've often seen, At the pictures, black and white, Faces proud, still, serene. I wish I knew the people, These strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories Are lost among my socks. I wonder what their lives were like, How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I'll never know their ways. I wonder what their lives were like, How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I'll never know their ways. Could this become the fate, Of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories, Someday to be tossed away? Make time to save your pictures, Seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours could be The strangers in the box. Strangers In A Box © 1997 by Pamela A. AOL have been sending all spam mail into a seperate spam file and like you, I would go into it every once in a while to see if there were any emails that I needed to wanted to see. But lately AOL seems to been letting just about all spam come into my emails instead of sending them to spam. I put the spam addresses into a special file in AOL and AOL will either just delete them or allow me to read but the problem with this is that the spammers just keep changing their email addresses. I use IE mostly although I when I run my cleaner I see files to be deleted from both Chrome and Firefox. I will look to see if either uses AdBlock as a "add-on" if I can find it. -----Original Message----- From: Joy Gulden <jegulden@gmail.com> To: gen-newbie <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Mar 26, 2014 10:54 am Subject: Re: [GN] off subject, hope no one minds (Spam e-mails and popups) For those who are getting popups when you are using the internet, have you checked to see if your browser has an "add-on" that will eliminate them? I have used Internet Explorer, Firefox and now Chrome and they each have an add on for this. I do not get any adds or pop ups by using these. The one for Chrome is AdBlock and if I remember correctly, the names are similar in the other browsers. I would recommend doing a search something like -- Internet Explorer add on -- or -- Firefox add on -- as I just did one for Chrome add on to find the name of the one I use in Chrome. FYI -- As far as the spam in emails -- I use gmail and have it POPed into my email program. I do not get any spam. Gmail does an exceptional job of keeping what they consider spam in a spam file at the on-line gmail site, then you can just page through to see if something that you want has been added to the spam file. My ISP email program also keeps a spam file and I check that one to see if there is something that I need in that file. Hope one of these hints help.
