    3. Maxine Everyone using gmail will be transitioned to the "new look" at some point. Google is just giving you the option to take a peek ahead of time, or switch now. I switched last week. 3. Hi, Linda, If your laptop is less than 5 yrs. old, it prob. already has wireless "reception" built in and you would not need the "wirelss USB port" assuming you mean a wireless USB reception device........ Cora _________________ Hi Gang, May I answer all the questions here at once as each is connected to the other, to the laptop. 1.start with a basic service of phone co. 2.then add a router, a 5 port is plenty, as it splits the phone signal for multi computer use within that area. each p/c will not have interference of anothers use, 3. the Magic Jack Plus is for wireless use, but is plugged into the router not the laptop, the orginal MJ required a p/c to function and kept the p/c tied up..and on. 4. from the router i will be plugging in a wirelss USB port. this allows me to wander the house with the laptop while in use. Now if this works, it will be a miracle! believe me. ~ Linda ~ Willow Creek,CA.

    2. Just had to add this comment about clothes. My husbands grandmother was married in 1879 and some of her pictures show her with a black dress (usual ladies only had one) and a lace collar (Hand crocheted). I have the picture but I also have the collar that she wore for this particular picture. Rather remarkable. ellen dating photos it could be interesting if you found out your female > ancestors were wearing a "Princess Peggy" dress: >

    3. Maxine, Google is changing the appearance of gmail. You can opt in to change 'now', or you can change later. 'Later' they are changing everyone anyway. Or so they say. I personally didn't like the 'new' look so I switched back. When they switch me to the new version I'll probably be just fine, I just don't like most changes until I get used to them. So just so you know, if you switch now, you can switch back for a while. melissa robards On Sat, Nov 12, 2011 at 7:36 AM, Uptha Creek <mpm1944@gmail.com> wrote: > Down in the lower right hand corner there appears a box "switch to the new > look".  I haven't a clue as to what that is and don't want to get into > something I may have trouble getting out of. > Can someone explain what that "new look" is? > Thanks again. > Maxine > >

    1. [GN] OT. Christmas 2011-Birth of a New Tradition
    2. mary kahkola
    3. This came to me in an email and I wanted to share it with as many people as possible. Something to think about anyway.... Good Stuff! Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse ......that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is! It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper? Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber? Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement. Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates. Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the Benjamines on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course. There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open. How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy? Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day. My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running. OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes. Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre. Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands. Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip. You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine. THIS is the new American Christmas. Spread the Christmas cheer!

    3. November 11, 1918, was the signing of the Armistice of WW I, this is why we have Veterans Day. WW I was the bloodist wars of its time. I doubt now, if we have any veterans of that War, amoung us. I hope the list is relaxed for the guys to remember why they fought so hard...or so long. They , now being in their 90's...(b:1900), perhaps a few remain alive in Europe or other areas of the World. I worked in a Veterans Geratric Hospital most of my adult life, the stories I was told, made me wonder what kind of world we live in then, haven't had a change of mind since then, it just gets crazier with each generation, over crowding is the big culpirt. Tomorrow, take a Veteran to Lunch and or Dinner and tell them thank you for your freedom. ~ Linda ~ Willow Creek,CA.

    3. Well I did find a good official Naval Site for the history of the various ships. Now I wonder how any of them were still on the McCawley's muster rolls in March 1943 as the McCawley was sunk in February 1943. I checked the ranks and they all refer to Carpenter's Mate and that was his major duty for the majority of his career. The other had to do with fire control. Next I need to find Muster Rolls for the Korean War. Marilyn On Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 7:59 PM, marilyn E B <marilyneb@gmail.com> wrote: > Thank you so much. I think for once I have found him.
