    3. Pam, I have looked online as well but haven't located any free information. I did find one site that lists marriage license for 3 Malinda Tyler's, however, you have to join and it is free for 7 days. It is RecordsBase.com. http://www.recordsbase.com/?act=census&fc=86&fck=texas&utm_source=adw&utm_me dium=cpc&utm_campaign=census&creativeid=g10181352104&utm_term=texas%20census %20records&group=adw-texas-census-records&network=g&site=&ran=14013820759105 7877&target=&aceid=&asl=[name]&match=b&location=texas&gclid=COCV8JzqtqwCFZJS 7AodLDxJHg I don't know if it would be worth the effort for you. Wish I could be of more help. 3. Nancy, does Fergus Falls have a library? I have often called libraries and asked if someone would look up City Directories for information...I have offered to pay for the clerk's time for this....had a good bit of success over the years. Beth <snip> My folks, Phillip and Geda Moe, Lived in Fergus Falls all their married lives. (and while they were single, too....LOL) They moved to different houses in Fergus Falls quite a few times. I don't have addresses for any of these houses. For example, one house was refered to as : "The Clifford House"... I'm assuming that refers to some former occupants. There are some photos, too, but, again, no addresses. Is there any way to find out addresses on these houses? Fergus Falls is the county seat of Otter Tail County. I do not think that Otter Tail County was ever a part of some other county, but I am not 100% sure of that! (My folks did not do a very good job of writing info on the backs of photographs! A very few were marked in my mother's handwriting, but not the photos of the houses. My sister, whom I could have asked, passed away about 5 years ago - she would have known this, but I sure can't ask her now!) Thanks a whole bunch! Nancy T PS. about my grandfather and grandmother - the historical society in Fergus Falls, has a file on the "Moe family" and they are willing to make a copy for me!!!! Wheeeee ! Cost me $41.75, which I regard as rather minor, considering I'm getting some info on them!!!) _______________________________________________

I had a relative bring several from Texas with him, then granted them freedom after arriving on the West Coast. I came home, and began looking for a way to find out who the "slaves" might have been? I found that records were kept, but not what kind and where do you access them? But on the internet the last few days, found a great site about the origins and history of "slavery", if you have questions about where or how this habit started you might enjoy this site: (http;//www.slavevoyages.org/tast/help/glossary.faces), its 12 page history that is in chronical order. Hope you enjoy the history given. So now I check for census at (http://www.MortalityCensus.com), becasue they began in 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. BY 1850 SLAVE schedules were starting to be kept by the Feds. By 1860, slaves were still listed as personal property on the Census takers list of questions, of the owners, but a seperate census for slaves was also done, the questions it asked were the 1]name of owner, 2] # of slaves, 3] age of slave, sex and color, 4] fugitives from state, 5] No. manumitted,<released from> 6] physical limits, <blind, deaf, dumb, insane or idotic>7] #. slaves houses, 8] remarks.....by 1870 the Civil War had freed most slaves, so census taking after 1870 would be in the general population I would think?..Now another question has popped up, "What about INDENTURED servants" are they slaves??? Answer is no, they are self committed to a Male family heir, for limited terms of committment for financial reasons, mostly for the voyage from shore to shore or the price of their ticket to the New World. Then they worked off the "DEBIT" in a given number of years (included bed and board) if they lived to fulfill the agreement. The normal time was 3-7 yrs. Another site is the ISDSA site, sons and daughters of slave ancestors. And our own Rootsweb, had a site for "SLAVES/SLAVEOWNERS" at (http://www.userdb/rootsweb.com/slaves/). SO, I'm looking for sites that have posted names of slaves and or their owners. CAn you help? 3. Fred Basically, it has to do with who gets to look at the documents. If you have another computer, and they are connected through a network, you can choose which files each computer can see on the other. Personally, I have full sharing on both computers, so it is meaningless to me. Everything is under documents or pictures. 3. Pam, I have seen no replies to your query so thought I would jump in and offer two possible places to search: www.familysearch.org and also take a look at the TX state archives to see if there exist marriage records for that time period. I am not a genealogical researcher but have been married to a lady who was for many years a pro historical/genealogical researcher, and she has suggested these two possible sources. As an after-thought: have you written to or called the Grimes courthouse; Grimes, if in fact, Grimes is the county? Good luck. 1. [GN] External hard drive not recognized by computer
    2. WandaRidge
    3. I have a Samsung ATA external hard drive on which once a month I back up my files. My computer is not recognizing the external hard drive. I have plugged, and replugged. When I plug it up, I get a message "Installing device driver software" then a msg that the device is ready to use. However, the Generic Drive X which is the hard drive is not recognized but F which is a removable disk in disk drive. There is no way that I can bring up the external hard drive. I have always very careful to unplug as directed. I went into Control Panel and under Disk Drives both a Generic External USB Device is listed as well as a Samsung ATA. Both say they are working properly. However when I try to bring up the "volume" in either, it reflects nothing as though there is nothing on the drive, or else it is not being recognized. Can anyone help? Wanda
