    3. Hi Listers, My requests would be to have our departed old timers of this list, back, a lot of knowledge went with them....yes, there is/are archives of them, but how many can recall their names? I want RHONDA to come to dinner, there was a lady with a library brain, she knew where the bonez were buried..and how to dig them up....and Woody, when did he slip away from us..? I for 1 miss his quips and Sarge, these folks come to my mind, as being so very helpful to all newbie's and old seekers of the past. I miss ALL the elders, just having a senior moment (chemo didn't help either)... ~ Linda ~ Willow Creek,CA.

    2. Linda, Well, golly! I'm touched that you've missed me since I've slipped away. Actually, I've been more reticent on the list. I still sneak in a comment now and then whenever I find my niche. But that niche doesn't pop up as often. You've inspired me to make a little more noise. As to who I'd invite to Thanksgiving dinner? My dad -- an incredible man -- the epitome of the Christian example. Never overbearing -- just kind, genuinely very interested in everyone, knew everyone and their family, generous, and extremely hard working.. I'd ask him to fill me in on all of the family history that didn't interest me in my youth. If I had a chance for another invite, I'd ask my ggggggggggfather b abt 1612 and ask him who his parents and g-parents were, who he married, where he came from, and who did he serve his indentureship under. There is an excellent discussion of how the libraries and documents work, at http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/developers/archive/2009/04/06/understanding-windows-7-libraries.aspx I recommend that anyone using Win7 read it. 3. I am guessing alot of people would invite their 'biggest' brick walls. Well, that's me. Over the past ten years I mostly thought I would want to invite my mother, but when the day would be over, I would miss her even more. Honestly, my heart is in such pain from missing her, I don't know if I could bear it. Unless a daily visit could be arranged, I think I'll take the easy way out. My major brick wall. Samuel R. Springer's father is identified in a guardianship paper. His name is Benjamin. He died in 1803. This is one time that 'TMI' doesn't apply. I want ALL the information! We have no idea who this 'Benjamin Springer' is, other than he died in 1803, leaving a 14 year old son. Who is his wife? Where was he born? Who are his parents? Who were THEIR parents... I want to know all about this man. What happened to his wife? How did he die? Did he name his son Samuel after Samuel R. Springer who married Amy Smith? Is Amy related to Hannah Smith, who's granddaughter married Benjamin's grandson, Joseph? And Joseph's son, Francis... Francis' mother in law is Lydia Springer. Did Benjamin know her father, Thomas Springer? How are Thomas and Benjamin related? Did he know the Dennis Springer who's father was also named Benjamin, but died some years after 'my' Benjamin? What 'family stories' does he have to tell? And what can I cook for Thanksgiving dinner that will make him want to stay and linger over dessert, talking and talking for hours about his life. I'm lucky in that I have Y DNA for this line, unlucky in that I have no idea how my Benjamin ties in with the rest of the SPRINGERs who 'match' that Y DNA. melissa in nv

    3. Maybe Elaine will put us on open status soon but I am posting this in time to give all time to think about who each would invite to Thanksgiving Dinner from their family's past. This year my invitation would go to a man that is not actually family. I would invite Jefferson Dillard Goodpasture. He was the lawyer/judge who wrote my ggg grandfather's will. I spent much of yesterday evening reading his biography. Not only could he give me the will, details of his visit with Elijah when writing the will; but also so much history of the area where 75% of my ancestors lived for over 150 years. I might have to ask him to stay the weekend. Who and why would you want someone from the past to share your Thanksgiving? 3. Neysa, Thanks, and a big thanks to your "freinds of Freind" It's about a 90 mile drive to Fergus Falls, from where I live. I don't have any more living relatives in the town, so don't go there very often. Again, Thanks!! 3. Nancy: My friend has contacted some of HER friends who live in Fergus Falls and asked them to read our requests and let her know about any MOE families or any of the locations you mention. Hopefully, we will be back with more info soon. Neysa, Both my parents were born in Fergus Falls, MN. They lived there (in one house or another!) all of their single lives and all of their married lives. When my mother (Geda Johnson Moe) was growing up she lived in a house at 323 Bismarck Ave (Or street) This was changed during WW1, to Washington Ave. Getting rid of anything that sounded remotely German! The only house I remember living in, was my grandmother's house. That was at 608 West Bancroft. I am not sure that that was the house that my Dad (Phillip Moe) grew up in. After my grandmother died, the house was sold; my folks bought my Aunt's house - on the eastern end of Bancroft Ave. (I don't remember the address. - it was a stucco house, seems I remember the windows trim was a dark green. They lived next door to a family with the last name of "Leabo") My folks were married on Dec 1, 1917. My dad had to leave for the army so my mother lived with my grandma Johnson, until he returned. That house is no longer there. Quite some time, later, it was moved to 518 E. Gustavus. My sister says: After my dad returned home, they moved into an apartment above a store, on Lincoln Ave. She said that she thought that the store is now "Welander's Jewelry store. Then they and my sister moved to a small house on the North shore of Lake Alice (in town). There was a family named Brandt that lived right next door. When my sister was about 4 years old, they moved to a house on Bancroft Ave. (not my g'mother's house) When sister was about 7 years old, they built a house on Vernon Ave. (I don't have a street address for it) The next move was to an upstairs apartment on Washington Ave, just one door removed from G'ma Johnson's house. Her house number was 323, so this apartment could possibly have been 327. Some time later, I remember that another of my aunts (Mom's sister" lived in the house, mentioned above. We used to have our Christmas celebrations there. I remember them talking about a house, they called the "Cliffod House". I don't know if it was the name of the family who built the house, or the family that lived there, just before my folks moved in. Hmmm. Seems I knew (via my sister's and cousin's written down histories), than I thought I knew. I have 3 or 4 pictures of houses, but, no names on the backs! Thanks! 3. John- I expect that would be at the time, when my sister said they were at an apartment that had one house in between my grandmother Johnson at 323 Washington.
