    3. John, I am very pro Linux, and even more anti windows. I could make a long list of the reasons for using Linux, but it would probably turn into a rant about microsoft, so I'll just leave it at 'I like Linux'. many people are concerned about making the move to Linux, and the Linux community are aware of this, so there are a number of ways to "try" Linux before fully committing to it. The dual boot is one way to go, and it would be ok on an xp system. I would not recommend it for Vista or Windows7 users. Personally, I don't like the dual boot. Like you said you have to make a choice at boot time, and if you want to change, you have to reboot. In response to your question about going into Linux directly from Windows. The answer is no you cannot do it that way. Linux is an operating system, and the only way to go into an operating system, is to boot into it. However, there are various ways you can run windows application inside Linux. Did you know, you can try Linux on your computer without installing it? Ubuntu do a "Live CD". the live cd will run Ubuntu Linux directly from the cd. It runs entirely in memory, and does not put anything onto your hard drive. The performance is a little slower, due to the fact it is running from a cd. Having said all that, if like windows, why make the move at all? 3. While you might think Henry C Highmiller would not have other family in Henry County, I am assuming he did. When I looked at the deaths in Henry County there were others that could have been his brothers or sisters. See: http://www.hcgs.net/hcdeathrec-h.html That link should take you to the "H" page. Scroll down until you find Henry, there were 2 and his wife is listed as Mary, which is the way she was listed on the 1920 census. If you can send me a little more information, I might be able to offer you more help. I lived in Henry County for many years. 3. Marilyn, there are two lengths of service for a lot of military personel. There is actual "Time In" and "Time in for Pay Purposes". As each enlistment period approaches, one can "re-up" early in some cases,"for the benefit of the service". For example, I reinlisted twice and received a total of about 6 months credit. When I was detached, I had 10.5 years in actual service, but was credited with 11 years for pay purposes. That meant that I could have retired after 19.5 years with full retirement benefits of 20 years. 3. Somehow, my wife's full name is now showing on her Outlook email, both incoming and outgoing. Friends and family know her, and use, only her middle name, or her nickname and that is what we used when we set up our Outlook account. We have no idea how her full name came to be used----we certainly do not know how to change it. How do we restore her middle name and/or nickname to her Outlook email account? I have read, I think, every word under every menu heading on Outlook and have not found the answer. TIA. We appreciate any and all help. Fred, Sr.

    3. Hi everyone Are you ready for the holiday season? Maybe you'd like to check out the Baker's Dozen Genealogist Wish List at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/ "All I want for Christmas..." Either leave it lying out for your loved ones to see (for gifts for yourself!) or use it to figure out what to get another avid genealogist in the family Also if you've inherited old family photos but have no idea what time period they are from, you might want to watch "5 Types of Early 19th Century Photographs - a YouTube Video< http://www.olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/2011/11/5-types-of-early-19th-century.html >" on the Olive Tree Genealogy YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/OliveTreeGenealogy?feature=mhee Learn about the 5 main types of photos from the 1800s and the time periods in which they were produced. The video has many examples of these types. The November Genealogy Challenge was well met and several people submitted their cemetery photos which are being made into videos for the Cemetery Walks on YouTube. See http://www.olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/p/cemetery-walks_26.html for a complete list of what's online and what is waiting in the wings! One last thing - Olive Tree Genealogy just published Case #10 for Found Dog ID Tags of Soldiers. One of the missions of Olive Tree Genealogy is to reunite found Dog ID Tags of soldiers with their descendants. Readers of my blog pitch in to help find loved ones. The list of our cases and whether the dog tags have gone home to descendants or we are still working on finding family is at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/p/soldiers-dog-tags-cases.html I'll give my Canadian listers a spoiler - next week there is a case coming up (Case #11) which involves a Canadian soldier from WW1. His dog tags have been found and the finder desperately wants to see them go back to family. Please take a peek and see if you can help with any of the open cases! What a great Christmas present that would be for some family - to have their dad or grandpa's dog tags returned. 3. Yvonne, I am familiar with the familysearch application. My wife does transcribing for the LDS. I also have it my PC. We are Linux users, so the application files are a little different. It is too much of a coincidence that the java application would also be a false positive. It sounds like the trojan.dropper activated before it was stopped, and you may have more malware on the computer. You need to scan with an off board virus scanner. Installing a virus scanner at this stage is probably not wise. Download a good virus scanner on a different computer you know to be clean, and burn a cd with the scanner on it. Then scan the whole drive from the cd. The cd is read only, so you know it cannot be infected. AVG do a rescue cd for this job. The best thing to do is go to http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-rescue-cd and follow the instructions. Let me know how you get on. 3. Yvonne, The file is safe in quarantine, and can do no harm. Don't delete it yet. If it is part of the familySearch application, it is probably needed. If the filesize is correct it is not a trojan. Can you look in quarantine and get the filename and filesize? We can then check to see if the file should be there and its correct size. Or you could just replace it with the correct one. 3. Hi Les, I Googled late this afternoon and discovered that Malwarebytes has been having a problem and that Java CPL.exe is a false positive and is not a Trojan. It is supposed to be fixed. But, I certainly will scan. Perhaps I can go online and do a scan. If that is not advisable then I will follow your instructions and do a scan before I release these programs that appear to be okay. I will let you know how things go. Thanks so very much for your help. 3. Yvonne, You should know that Malwarebytes is famous for false positives. Before you delete it be sure you now what file it is. Now I'm not saying it's not a virus. I'm just saying be sure before you delete it. Assuming it is a trojan.Dropper. A Trojan.Dropper is a type of Trojan whose purpose is to deliver other malware into your computer. A dropper is a means to an end rather than the end itself. In other words, the dropper is usually used at the start or in the early stages of a malware attack. If the dropper has already been activated, there is a good chance you will have other malware on your system. If it has been caught before it could activate, you are ok. I would suggest installing AVG Free from grisoft. It is a quality antivirus that will give you very few false positives, and its detection rate is probably better than malwarebytes. If you do have other malware, there is more chance that AVG will find it.
