    3. I copied the entire newsletter from Footnote/Fold 3. Listed at the bottom are their freebies for now. If you had an ancestor at Pearl Harbor in the Navy/Marines you may find them in the files they have available. Also available is the 849 page report on Pearl Harbor. If you can not use these links just go to their site. ************************************* Attack on Pearl Harbor *December 7, 1941*, "a date which will live in infamy," is seared into the American psyche as the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and took the United States into World War II. That immortal phrase was delivered the following day by President Roosevelt in an address to Congress and the nation. He predicted that "always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us." This year, on the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks, Americans continue to remember the shocking event and the loved ones who lost their lives that day. It was a tragedy that affected millions of lives. Many people alive today have a personal connection to December 7, 1941, and there are many more who lost fathers, uncles, grandfathers, and friends, or heard stories about that day and its aftermath from those who lived through it. At Fold3, we keep history alive and provide personal perspectives to the past through tributes left by others. We invite you to leave a tribute on the USS* Arizona* War Memorial. Share a story, link to a photo or letter, and bring your memories to others so we may all continue to remember. 2. Maxine, I am jumping in on this thread and perhaps, I should not but based on what I have done is contact the local Veterans organization and ask for help. They are a great source or at least they have been for me. I do not know about the death benefits for widows and children that far back but as I recall there was an insurance payable to the person as selected by the service member and it did not have to be a spouse. When we Married that policy, if it had become payable would have been to his mother. He made changes the week we married and later we changed to a different type of policy but that was long ago. Just check with your local VFW and ask questions, don't take (I don't know as your answer)no as a final answer but keeping going. ellen Thanks Marilyn, > Since he was killed in action I hoped there would be more information > regarding his death; exactly where, name of battle he was in, and surely > there was some sort of medal or award, letter from the President or War > Department. 3. Yes, I regularly use CCleaner and have for years. I do accept most all of the default actions. I do use the Scan Registry for issues, save those that are being deleted and have never had a problem. Our Keith Thompson did not like CCleaner and recommended another free cleaner, perhaps someone remembers what he preferred. He is not on list right now. 3. Sue, You should not install more than one antivirus/anti-malware application at the same time. They will fight with each other, and the results will be a disaster. Pick one application you can trust and remove the others. My personal opinion. Dump malwarebytes. It has too many false positives. Before I retired a few years ago, I always used to install AVG on my clients computers. All registry cleaners will mess up your system if they are not used with care. Have you not used the Windows Registry Checker tool (scanreg.exe) At a command prompt run *scanreg /fix* Having said that, if you have 1200 errors in your registry, you have a serious problem, and it may be time for a complete rebuild. You do not have to have a relationship to download the records there or someone else could check for you if you send the details. I would but I do not have a subscription at this time. 1. Re: [GN] Pearl Harbor--Who remembers?
    2. Love that story, Juanita! And 69 years is a really wonderful marriage. Connie I remember perfectly what was going on that Sunday, December 7th in 1941. It was the first time I met my future husband. He and my one male cousin had been friends in a nearby town and had driven the 50 miles or so - just to be going somewhere. My cousin suggested stopping by my apartment house where I'd been living for a few years while working at my first big job after graduating high school. I had gone to a morning movie and before it ended the management stopped the show and announced Pearl Harbor had been attacked. I had heard of Pearl Harbor but didn't know much about it. We knew it meant war....the guys were 20 yrs. old, had good jobs but figured they'd probably enlist rather than wait to be drafted into the Army. We went for a long afternoon drive....got lost on Frank Phillips' Wool-A-Roc ranch west of Bartlesville, OK. A few hours later the two fellows went home and the weekend ended. The next morning my boss at the oil company where I worked called of the office employees to his private office where he had a small radio. We all listened intently to President Roosevelt announce the "day that will live in infamy". My husband-to-be and I had a whirlwind courtship....he enlisted in the Navy and 2012 we'd have celebrated our 70th wedding anniversary. Sad to say we weren't allowed that privilege and he died a few weeks ago. We had a wonderful nearly 70 years together.....my parents were apprehensive about their daughter marrying a sailor but later agreed he was "one in a million". Oh, how I miss him. December 7th always had a special place in our heart .... both because of the terrible war that ensued but also it was the beginning of a wonderful life we've had....with no regrets. juanita ks > How many remember what they were doing that day so many years ago.
