I don't see how the information would be considered 'not' insensitive if one has to pay to see it. It might have been more humane if they worded it differently. I can think of several ways they should have worded it, but none would change the outcome. I've long worried they were going to start charging for uploading family trees. melissa On Tue, Dec 13, 2011 at 9:42 AM, Judi Henkel <heeyjude@yahoo.com> wrote: > > http://searches.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ssdi.html > > Did you guys know this was going to happen? > > I didn't. It has been quite awhile since I have had Carbonite, so perhaps how it operates has since changed. Having said that, I know that there were a few times that I accessed my home computer files while at work. My work computer has never had Carbonite software on it. I went to carbonite.comand signed into my account and made my way to the files. I was able to select and download those files to my work computer. However, the day came when I had a computer crash and Carbonite (temporarily) did not have any of my files available for me....among other issues such as huge billing mix-ups having two separate computer accounts. As I say, maybe with present day rules, going to Carbonite on another computer is no longer allowed. Gini I'm not weird, I'm gifted Thoughts become things... choose the good ones! Thank you everybody :) I do think I'm going to have to try a few different things. One is trying to keep a backup on Google docs, attached files in Google, and then also try Carbonite. I have a free DropBox account, but filled that up like the first day with some pics, but will try one of the others. She needs a reliable backup plan for those days when she forgets her flashdrive. It's actually time for me to renew my account with Carbonite so I think I'm going to check into retrieving files from a computer not on the account. thnx again! melissa On Tue, Dec 13, 2011 at 3:24 AM, Gini Mullaly <gkmullaly@gmail.com> wrote: > It has been quite awhile since I have had Carbonite, so perhaps how it > operates has since changed. Melissa, Mother and daughter could share a newly created GMail account, and use the account for access to files saved in GMail e-mails. The file(s) to be accessed would be attachments to e-mails sent to one another or one's self. However, one would have to change the mail filter so that it would not discard incoming e-mails that were a duplicate of what was in the SENT folder. (The "how-to" on changing the GMail filter so that dups aren't discarded was provided in an earlier post). The above system is being used by another of our members for saving files. The title of each e-mail could be a title and description of what was in the attached file. She should be able to if she has the sign in password, and an idea where the items are saved. I have retrieved material from Carbonite and it worked. I have no idea if they have any limitations on how many times you can do that. If I have files saved/backedup by Carbonite, can I access those files from any computer? My daughter has left her files at home twice now, and while I've been home to 'send' them to her both times, I'm wondering if she can just log onto Carbonite from a computer at Unie and get exactly what she wants, or would something like DropBox work better for that? Not sure if DB 'free' version would hold enough though :( I don't know the exacts, so basically just asking a general question. melissa in nv
How can I do this? Never had a problem with Outlook Express. I tried to highlight & delete-didn't work-backspace didn't either. Need baby steps! Thanks in advance. REMINDER: re-type i-be-leve@msn.com hitting reply puts hotmail in and I'll never get my answer.
Rudy, I am not clear as to whether you once had your address book in Win7, Comcast mail. If that is the case, my son told me that using Comcast mail and running Win7, 64 bit as I am, the Microsoft Outlook address book/files will be found in .pst search. Never having tried it, I don't know, but worth a try. I am sure experienced computer folks will chime in and send accurate and precise information. Good luck! I have a router for my computer. I have comcast. I don't know what it does, I just know I need it to get on the internet. Comcast gave it to me when I signed up. I was told that if I had problems with it, I should get a new one at the Comcast store. (I've had it for several years now) And it was part of the setup. But maybe they do things different now. Maxine, I know how you feel. I lost mine baby about 15 years ago. The best dog I ever had. I guess you could say he was more friend, than dog! He was supposed to be the Kids' dog, but he decided he was "MY" dog. You know.... the family dog loves everyone in the family, but one person is definitely "the Boss"!!! He's buried here on our farm, then I went in the house and I bawled!!! I'd lost my best friend! Hang in there! Viola, The router provide the wireless capability between your internet connection and your computer. The router is connected to your internet connection, usually a modem. Some cable/internet companies can provide a modem with wireless capability, usually called an "advanced modem", and at a higher monthly cost than a standard modem, which is what my internet/cable provider offers. In fact, this company would not let me use my aadvanced modem, because it want to control the security for the internet connection. My sister had the opposite experience and was told that if she wanted wireless capability, she had to provide the wireless router to connect between the company's internet modem and her computer. You could ask your company if there is the option of them providing an "advanced modem." You could also weigh the additional monthly cost against the one-time cost of buying a wireless modem. I hope this helps! When you click to shut down do you get a screen with 3 option like ,,, standby ,,,restart,,,shut down,,,? If so hold down the shift key and see if the the one option changes to Hibernate. If not,,from the start panel select control panel, than performance and maintenance and than power options. You should be able to select hibernate from there.
