Left clicking on recycle bin did bring up properties. There were three items within the properties with one additional at top: the name of OS: C and size 1. Custom size was checked. Maximum size (MB): 49233 2. Not checked was: Don't move files to recycle bin. Remove files when deleted. 3. Checked: display delete confirmation Thanks again for your guidance. Yes Les, I would love a copy of the relationship calculator. I have found my birth family and the more people I find the harder it becomes for me to figure out how I am related to them. Les, a bit late in responding to your guidance: the right click shows me the _empty recycle bin_ is greyed out whereas four or five other items are ready to open. Hi Listers, I have to wonder out loud, if the removal of the public's access to SSDI, " is to prevent futher ID thieft", but now that this is owned by Rootsweb/ Ancestry, what happens to those of us who haven't or can't afford the high prices of these subscription controlers.? I have to live on SS, and I'm 70 yrs. old, [ just can't run out and get a job, to support my gen habit], we all know that's not a heck of a lot, generalogy at this rate is getting pretty pricey, I'm begining to think.. Now they force us to "Beg" others for help that we would have done on our own, becasue they have the control of the information...its like holding the information hostage...toll roads have the same thing in common. Its not fair, in any way shape or form. ~ Linda ~ Willow Creek,CA.

I have heard from Keith who is still off list for travels. Some of his comments and a link to his photos are below. Elaine "I hope to return to Gen-Newbie after the first of the year. With our travel and the holidays, things have just been a bit more than busy. We were in Turkey and Greece for 16 days and then at my sons for Thanksgiving (8 days to get around the travel costs). That shortened up our shopping time and house prep as well as the annual letter and cards. "Here is a link to my posting of our Turkey/Greece trip. https://picasaweb.google.com/104219933096333296181/Turkey?authkey=Gv1sRgCPSJ94mrqreJKg&feat=email "If you like, you can share it with the list. It was supposed to be last year for our 50th, but with the problems in Greece last year, we postponed and as a result, ended up with a better trip in that we spent 10 days on a 4 masted schooner cruising the Aegean Sea and visiting shore sites in Turkey and Greece."

Pat I have asked that question on this list and other lists but no one ever came back with an answer. I think Tom Kemp did one time say that names already there would not be removed. I could be wrong but I remember someone saying that. Once again I would say at least have a membership at either or both Ancestry and Genealogy; that way you can use their SSDI records. I am not saying a paid subscription just a membership. I am unsure how many sites I have a signin ability but not a subscription. It would be allowed, that's the only way one could recover files after a computer loss, the recovery would be to a new computer. What I suggested is that she might need the program on the computer being used. If you say not, then it's probably not. I've never attempted the maneuver. Illya Thanks for this information. I couldn't figure out what was "sensitive" -- but since the primary purpose of publishing the SSDI is to provide "time-sensitive" information to prevent fraudulent use of SSNs, this makes sense. But, I'm curious -- why would the gov't "remove" names from the SSDI?
