    2. Rudy, I certainly understand your reluctance to leave Outlook Express (OE) and go to another e-mail program. OE is a slick, easy-to-use, comfortable program with lots of bells and whistles. I STILL don't know what I'm going to use when I finally have to give it up. It will be either Windows Live Mail (or is it Windows Mail? The two differ), or Thunderbird. OE will not work on Vista and Win 7, and I do not plan on using virtual XP on Win 7 just to use OE, as that can involve a long learning curve, create unforeseen problems, and time consuming work. At the moment, I think I'll go with T-bird, based on the comments of others saying it is much like OE. But that thought can change tomorrow. 3. Elaine, I guess you'd call me dumb. I have an idea in my head about something I may want the computer to do. Well, it either doesn't do "it" at all, or the computer will do "it" but I can't make it do "it" - likely because I don't know how....either way, I'm banging my head against the wall. It's a very good thing for me, and some others, that there are plenty of folks on this list, who DO know how to do "it".... but sometimes, I am not exactly sure of how to explain myself! So. Thanks to all the guys and gals who are willing to help! And a Merry Christmas to all! Shalom, NancyT On 12/24/2011 12:22 PM, Rudy wrote: > I am aware of that Elaine. I am stubborn but not dumb. 3. Nope! As soon as my restore from Carbonite finishes (Elaine knows Carbonite has been a BIG problem for me) I will investigate Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail, and will probably then have some questions of my own. I am encountering some of Windows 7 quirks, but I don't plan to investigate too many until Carbonite finishes. I have been restoring since about Dec. 11, which is of course way too long, and am only at 62%; have been on chat with techs 3 times, during which they had access to my computer, and was scheduled for a phone chat with a 2nd tier tech yesterday, but he made too many overlapping appointments and never got around to me. Now I'm (so far) his only appointment next Wednesday! GRRRRR! Maybe I'll be 75% restored by then. Connie Do you plan to do it, Connie? <grin> XO Elaine > I guess I misspoke ... reading Les Hardy's > response, you can do that if you get a Virtual XP on your computer. > Connie

    2. Les Hardy
    3. I thought a quick explanation about xp compatibility under windows7 may be useful. As many of you will know, windows7 will not run many of the old applications. This means that anyone upgrading to windows7 from xp will most likely loose some of their favourite applications. With this in mind, Microsoft supplies free utilities to create a virtual xp mode that allows you to run most of your old applications under windows7. As far as I know, the 'virtual xp' is only available for Windows7 *Professional* and Windows7 *Ultimate* users. Les Hardy

    3. Yes there is. You can run a virtual xp in windows 7, and Outlook Express will run ok in it. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx It's not too complicated to do, but you will need to understand program compatabilty modes... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-program-compatibility Personally, I think it's a lot easier to use thunderbird. Give it a try. you won't regret it. I have used both thunderbird and outlook express daily since their very first versions, and although I have always liked outlook express, Thunderbird has everything outlook express had, and more, and it's real easy to use. Setting up email accounts in thunderbird is so easy, it almost does it for you. Merry Christmas Everyone.
