Hi Les, Thanks for the reply. I should have asked how to transfer Windows Mail to Thunderbird, not OE. I have emails I have saved in folders from as early as 1998 on my genealogy research. I hate to lose them as I move from one version to another. I was able to transfer all the Outlook Express mail from my XP computer to my Windows Vista computer via Windows Mail and Express Assist (a paid program I love). But soon I will move on to Windows 7. From what I understand Windows Live Mail will import Windows Mail, but I am hearing many don't care for it. Since I can't seem to find any screenshots, I can't make judgement until I make the move to Windows 7. I have been researching programs available to move Windows Mail to Thunderbird, and the options have looked bleak. The page I linked to my query looks so easy, way too easy. I was wondering if someone had used it and had it do well. http://support.real-time.com/tbird/oe_import.html It appears to be referring to the Thunderbird directions. Here are the directions at the Mozilla site for importing other mail into Thunderbird. It does not look that easy. http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=switching-thunderbird-windows-or-web-based-email-a#w_importing-windows-mail-messages I am also wondering how the Windows Mail will look in Thunderbird...if it will appear in readable format or some archived version. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Les Hardy" <les@webmayo.com> To: <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 25, 2011 5:49 AM Subject: Re: [GN] Has anyone tried this method of moving OE to Thunderbird? > Sidney, > You're absolutely right. Hi Elaine, Rudy is having a lot of bother. We have been exchanging emails all day. I just thought a long list of chat would be confusing to other members, as it's only useful in context. You're right of course, and I will try to stay on-list as much as possible in future. Sometimes members email me off-list, and I assume they want to stay private. If that is the case, I will post the answers to the questions I have been asked, without giving names. Merry Christmas all. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. The list has been on relaxed rules for a week. I too miss the chit-chat of past years. We lost some people who have gone to a better place but there should be some newcomers to pick up the slack. I watched the Papal Mass last night and it was a good start to my Christmas which will include some long distance calls among family, son has already called from work to make sure I heard a Merry Christmas from him early by telephone. I ate a very late ham omelet and now wonder if I can eat a big meal. I was planning a non-traditional meal since it was only for my pleasure, but my pleasure may be not cooking today. The omelet hit the spot and there's no room right now for more food except for the coffee with cookies right now. My two Chihuahua watchdogs have told me every time a stranger has walked the floor of this high rise condominium. They will have sore throats by tonight. We attempted a reading of Luke on another list and only two of us have participated. Disappointing for that list. We made it to 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. http://christ-images.artistwebsites.com/featured/the-holy-night-carlo-maratta.html The list is in relaxed state until January 2. Wow. I knew several ways to copy and paste, but this was not one of them. Works great, and I'm glad to know it. Thanks, Les. Connie How to copy with drag and drop. 1. Start the application you want to copy FROM 2. Start the application you want to copy TO 3. Select the text you want to copy 4. Hold down the left mouse button, and drag the text into the application you want to copy TO If both applications are not visible on the screen, this is not a problem. The bottom task bar displays the icons of your open apps. 1. When you start the drag, just drag over the taskbar icon of the application you want to copy TO (don't drop yet) 2. The application will pop up 3. drag the text into the application you want to copy TO 4. Drop the text where you want it.

No one should have been offended, Rudy. The list is about helping and Les helped you. I hope you have gotten to the place where you want to be. What I wanted was to make sure anyone else who might want to do the same thing receives the same information. That's what help lists are all about. Merry Christmas! Sidney, You're absolutely right. It does sound complicated, but there's a reason for that. There are so many different combinations of what someone may want to export/import. The problem for someone giving the instructions, is how much information to include. I have a wealth of information to give, but if I include too much of it, the instructions get bloated and complicated. Bespoke instructions are always best. That's why groups like gen-newbie are so valuable. If I give you step by step instructions for your own situation, it will not seem so complicated. I sent off-list instructions to Rudy, as I have done with others. Tell me exactly what you want to do, and I will try to take you through it, a step at a time. If there is ever a step you do not understand, just ask, and I will give more information. Les Hardy On 25/12/11 04:20, Sydney Cardner wrote: > I have been looking for a way to do it. I have been looking for a way to do it. So far everything I have seen sounds complicated. I had heard it could be done but that the email would not appear the same. This page details how to do it in the Thunderbird pane, and it does not sound that bad. Anyone? http://support.real-time.com/tbird/oe_import.html
Quote Today's Topic: Copy and Paste Parts of a Document You can copy part or all of a document and then paste it into another section of the same document, or into another document entirely. This allows you to quickly reuse text, images, charts or any other information without retyping. 1. Open the document and select the section that you want to copy. (Note: to select text, point to the first character to be selected, hold the left mouse button down, and drag across text; to select a graphic, right click on the graphic, left click on copy in the resulting menu) 2. While the section is selected, open the Edit menu and click Copy. This copies the selected material into a special area of the computer's memory, called the Clipboard. (Note that the selection also remains where it was in the document; it doesn't disappear.) 3. Move your cursor to the place or document where you want to paste the material that is now in the Clipboard. Click when your pointer is in the correct spot. A flashing line will appear where you clicked. 4. Open the Edit menu and click Paste. The material that you copied into the Clipboard now appears at the spot you indicated.
