Kathleen, from many years ago, when I first joined GenNewbie, it was your messages about Christmas past and present that always lingered in my mind. Just to bring everyone up to date on this. Fred as now fixed his problem with the recycle bin and email. The recycle bin problem was caused by the "Dell Dock". Actually, my granddaughters, Trinity (almost 10) and Teagan (almost 5) received a set of American Girl Bitty Twins to share. One has brown hair (Teagan's as she has brown hair) and one has blond hair (Trinity's as she has sandy blond hair) and light skin. I thought it a risk, especially for Trinity, because 1.) a shared gift? Hmmm.... 2.) a doll for an almost 10-year-old who is somewhat 'trendy?' They have played with them together without ceasing. We also bought them a dolly bunk bed for them and a tea set. We also bought each girl a 'fairy hideaway' to go over each of their beds in their shared bedroom. Teagan's is lavender and Trinity's is pink. They adore them; their mom got them hung from the ceiling almost immediately after the general post-gift-opening cleanup. Trenton, recently turned 12, who has his own room on our level, received two erector sets (one medium one from granddad Rod and I, along with a metal detector) and a huge one from his parents (Bobby sent Lauren Christmas $$ for the kiddos and she went out and bought it). He has been building extremely complex things with occasional breaks to use the Xbox. We also bought him a large piece of duck blind fabric (woodland print with the cutouts that look leaf-like and dangle all over it) and we are going to take it to a corner over his bed. he thinks it is cool and will be like seeping in a tent! They are very happy with the basics thought they do really like the Xbox. What a great Christmas for those little boys. We bought them a set of walkie-talkies, (for children of course) but would carry and transmit quite a distance outside. The little fellows went outside and turned on the walkie-talkies. Evidently they accessed a line that someone was talking over, and some jolly voice said, " Well, Merry Christmas and I'll see you all again next year." Talk about two excited boys! They just knew they heard the real Santa. Of course, we didn't tell them any different. They are now 50 and 51 and I'm not sure but that they still believe ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Finley" <marmfin@verizon.net> To: <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 26, 2011 10:07 AM Subject: Re: [GN] Postings from holiday's past >I vividly recall the year I absolutely, positively heard hooves on the roof > of our home. I vividly recall the year I absolutely, positively heard hooves on the roof of our home. I was probably five or six years old and unaware of my congenital nerve deafness. I couldn't possibly really have heard the prancing of reindeer without the wonderful hearing aids I now own! Isn't childhood imagination a grand thing indeed! We didn't receive the many gifts children get today, but I remember the year I got my Sparkle Plenty doll. Remember Sparkle Plenty, daughter of BO and Gertie? She must have been my very last Christmas doll because I was nine years old in 1947 when Sparkle made her appearance! Imagine a nine year old girl being happy with the gift of a doll today! I hope everyone is enjoying this day after Christmas.
