    1. [GN] Carbonite
    2. ETM
    3. Because I wanted to back up an external that holds my immediate backups, I bought up on the Carbonite subscriber schedule. It now backs up my hard drive and ONE external (I actually have three, so I have named one of the drives Carbonite so I rermember which one to put the GOOD stuff on for backup). Then Carbonite began to nag me, because an option of my bought-up subscription is a mirror image for which I need to commit one external (nothing else can be here) of at least the same size as my hard drive, and Carbonite will handle the software mirror backup to my external drive. I tired of the nagging and finally moved files from the one drive to the drive that will be backed up to the Carbonite servers and let Carbonite set up the mirror image. It is doing that now, almost 23% done, and I can use (though it is sluggish) my computer while the image is being made. I suspect I will one day be happy to have an up to date image and backup. If you are considering a backup system, you might want to consider what is now available at Carbonite since these options are relatively new there. Elaine

    3. Congratulation Annette, That's a great christmas present. Your family must be smart as well as generous. YES, You can transfer any data you have to the iMac Data from email, word, spreadsheet, images, music, video etc are all transferable. If the data is of a non standard format, you can either use the mac version of the application you were using in windows, or export your old data and import it into a similar application for the mac. NO, You don't need to keep the old pc, unless you want to. YES, The iMac can run windows apps,( if you install windows.) Your new iMac can run both operating systems simultaneously. With the new iMac you will probably have got OSX Lion. Boot Camp software is included with OS X Lion. This will allow you to run Windows on the iMac. Parallels Desktop software is also available for integration of windows apps. There is something you should note: Your new iMac has a reliable system with very little chance of malware problems. If you put windows on your nice shiny new iMac, you will be just as vulnerable to malware, as any other windows system. Have fun Les Hardy On 27/12/11 06:24, Annette wrote: > G'Day > > Now, I NEED Help Big-time > I mean it too! > My family has got me a iMac for Christmas. 3. Hi gang, well the list has been quiet for a few days? Hope that now, everyone is over the Xmas highs....what did you do special this year? Anything that your going to remember or regret? I spent my Christmas day, being a caregiver to a Cancer patient. Her name is Terri, and she is a partical remmision stage of Lukemia. She has to be away from all her family and friends but me...Dr. orders. As a Cancer survivor myself this past year, I still keep away from public events and such like crowds. Terri's chemo is so strong that she can't taste anything, isn't interested in food or drink, and the list goes on. So she thought no Christmas for her, So I gathered together some ho-ho gifts and jokes and spent the day feeding them to her, then we played cards (different games of) for 3 hours...I took her a wee slice of Cocanut Cream pie, boy did that disappear..made a u -urn at the bottom, but least it went down for a bit!. Today she is tired, but had a good time....we both feel good about christmas, and I told her, after chemo, her family can have a 2nd tree for her...she has 2 more chemo's to do , so hopefully by March, she will be in the clear...keep your fingers crossed...The Medical profession has come a long way towards stopping cancer's spread, but there is a lot of research remaining to be done...donate to the American Cancer Society often, not just breast cancer- but to Cancer studies that help all of us. ~ Linda ~ Willow Creek,CA.

    1. [GN] A "Second Christmas"......
    2. Shari B
    3. Hubby and I just celebrated his "Second Christmas" since his heart transplant. What a ride this has been. Three years on the waiting list and now 2 yrs. post-transplant. Outlook is good. All his biopsy's have been 'clean'. The Drs. say if he makes it to year 2 post-transplant chances are 98% he won't suffer from rejection. To remember this all started 5 yrs. ago........ my how things have changed! Two of our grand-daughters were just crawling babes at the start of our experience. Now they are 5 yrs.(soon to be 6) and a 6 yr. old - but added to this - are a two 4 yr. olds and a 2 yr. old - all of which hubby may never have known if things had turned out differently. Blessed are those who sign their donor cards as we are blessed to receive such a gift. *********** We spent Christmas day with two of our sons & their families. Throughout the day the little girls, individually, came up and crawled onto my lap until I was 'filled' with 3 little girls all sitting on Granny's lap all at the same time. Kisses (actually putzes, not kisses) were handed around, giggles shared, love stated, squeezes given and off to play again. Even Grandpa got his lap filled a time or two yesterday. Nice memories - could have a whole lot different. Shari

    1. [GN] Christmas Day
    2. marilyn E B
    3. My day began almost as early this year as that of my childhood/children's childhood. Grand daughter, Lexie, got her own laptop. I had told her mother I would walk her through getting it set up, as it is the same as the laptop I purchased in June. She called me around 6 and we worked on removing and adding the programs she needed. Thanks to George, GenNewbie, I had all the needed information. That took a few hours. Then called my son to wish him and his family a Merry Christmas but they were just getting up. Children are older so not the excitement and early risers. Time for cooking and eating. Too much of both. Now to eat all the leftovers. During the evening I called my brother and we had a very long conversation. Mostly about memories of Christmas in days gone by, food we had shared at the family table, our gardens and various friends. This conversation was the best part of my Christmas Day. I just hope all here had a Christmas as memorable as mine. Marilyn -- "If you don't get outside every day, even for a minute, you have not appreciated what God has done. It makes you grateful for our surroundings, and it starts your day differently." Johnny Cash

    3. Well, I thought that I had copied all my floppies before getting rid of my old computer. However, I recently found a file folder with floppies containing document copies from the archives in Germany. I think I probably have copies (I always made duplicate or triplicate disks) but am not sure. I probably just need to find someone nearby who still has a floppy drive and have them copy for me. Hate to buy an external floppy drive for a couple of disks. (but I have to know what they contain!). Except for space considerations, I should have kept my old Gateway XP for a reserve. It was a love but a space hog. 3. Sounds almost like my hubby's last two days. He splurged and got me a laptop, so we spent yesterday evening and this morning moving all my stuff off the desk computer and onto my laptop. Thank goodness for computer guru's who can help others. Managed to move it all and have to say I like this laptop so far. It is an HP Pavilion g7, CoreI3, with Windows 7, nice large screen and keys that I can hit w/out hitting three at once. LOL Learning curve though. Daughter has helped me with some of it, because she got a laptop a year ago for her birthday and has had some of this stuff like sticky notes for awhile.
