I had an HP for several years and had many of the same problems and then I bought a Canon that does have multiple cartridges. The multiple cartridges seem to last longer than just using a black and color cartridge. Off the top of my head I think it is a Canon MP 560. I love this printer. > It does have wireless capabilities but I have never set it up to run on > wireless. It is an all in one and I found it for about the same price as > you paid for the HP. I think this one will print on card stock as paper can be loaded both from the bottom and top. I think the top is for photo and card stock. I just looked it up and even new on ebay it is triple what I remember paying for mine. I would certainly buy another one which is about the best recommendation I can give. Marilyn, I'm looking at the newer version Canon Pima MX882. Does your machine handle card stock well? I use a lot of card stock in printing genealogy records for my family. I managed to figure out how to transfer a family obit from newspaper online to both Paint and Word '07. In Paint, the obit is enlarged now to legible text size, but I cannot get it to print out in that same text/font size. How is that accomplished? A screen shot put the obit in Word '07 along with photo of the Paint tool bar. How do I crop that tool bar in Word '07? I have tried for two or three hours to figure that out with help of Word Help, but to no avail. Finally, with Word '07 documents, I select the text and change both font and font size with no problem; however, with the screen shot of the obit, Word will not permit me to select the item. Please explain how to do that as well. TIA I will certainly appreciate any guidance with these problems. Fred, Sr.
I have the HP Officejet 6500A Plus and it does everything I need to do and not being a fan of HP for many years I am very pleased. I have two other Epson printers and find the HP superior to them and I have long been an advocate of Epson. The wireless function and the E-print has been great, however I learned that when printing wirelessly not to close the document window until the print is complete as the print is garbled when doing so. That is my only problem I found so far and it is easily overcome, just leave the window open and minimize if I want to continue to do other things. * Jim Hope* On 09/01/2012 10:23 AM, Ridge wrote: > The HP 4500 deskjet just purchased for $59 will be returned to the store > today. Marilyn, I had looked at that printer. The only down side I saw was that it did not print photos well. I scan and print lots of photos ...some old photos for inclusion in family books and many of the grandchildren . Do you print photos from yours and how is the quality for that? ----- Original Message ----- From: "marilyn E B" <marilyneb@gmail.com> To: <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 09, 2012 10:12 AM Subject: Re: [GN] need help choosing printer > Check out this link on Amazon and read the reviews. Thanks for the heads up, Jim. It would be useful to know the computer type and operating system of the victims of such hijacking. I use a Mac with OS Leopard and am wondering what defensive software to get to protect my addressbook + other stuff. Thanks, Jim. I liked the looks of that one, but there was one very critical review and it was given only 3 stars on Amazon review. One which prints on card stock is a must. Will look at it again. The HP 4500 deskjet just purchased for $59 will be returned to the store today. Constant paper jams and no rear access door to clear from the back. It would not take card stock. You get what you pay for. What I am looking for is a copier/fax/scanner/printer all -in-one. I would buy one with wireless feature, looking toward the future although I do not now have a wireless router. I scan quite a bit, print photos, and use card stock often. I've always had an HP and would probably like another HP. Want front loader and not multiple ink cartridges. Have looked at (Amazon and HP site) HP PhotoSmart 7510, given 4 stars on amazon, but there were some critical reviews. Canon PIXMA MG 5320 4 star rating Canon Pima MX 882 4 stars HP Office Jet 6500APlus -- 3 stars and a very critical review. I am likely to have to order from Stapels, Best Buy, Amazon, etc. as I am a couple hours aways from a facility which sells printers. I just need a plain, heavy duty printer that will scan, copy, print what I want it to do. Still running Vista OS... but looking toward the time when computer will be changed, therefore considering the wireless. Would apprecite any help... not only on those listed, but on any good printer. And I still like HP. Wanda Ridg

Hey folks should you get a strange email from me, I did not send it. I have just had my address book hijacked and before I knew it hundreds of strange messages had been sent out. Hopefully no one opens them or clicks on the URL contained in them. All seems to be well now, but, I have had to change all my passwords on email and have run Malwarebytes and found one offending file that I have deleted now and the computer is clear. This is the first time I have ever had this happen so be aware should it happen to you, change the passwords for your email and run both a virus and malware scan to be safe. -- * Jim Hope*

I need to get an obit that should be coming out any day. I'm not sure if he died Fri night, or very early Sat, Paul L. Springer, birth year c1916. I don't have the actual birthdate but I know he's in his mid-ninties. I'm going to start watching the online newspapers for Houston, too, I guess most big papers are online in some form now. Anyway, I don't see it yet (Googling) and I have some awful sore throat and cough this weekend so I would appreciate a little help. We're hoping to get an actual newspaper clipping, in addition to the online obit. Thank you! melissa in nv
