    1. [GN] 1850 census Perry County, Missouri Phillip Popp
    2. Joyce Ann Junkin
    3. I would appreciate a look up of the 1850 census for a Phillip Popp living in Perry County,Missouri. I am researching my Reeb/ Schneider (synder,Snider) ancestors. Jacob Schneider was to have married his second wife Barbara Popp around 1855. I was wonder ing if this was her father in the 1850 census and was she living with this family. Thanks Joyce Ann

    1. [GN] need help choosing new printer
    2. Ridge
    3. One more time about needing a new printer..... Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry concerning purchasing a new printer. After much looking and reading, I need to decide between two, either which would fit my needs. HP PhotoSmart 7510e All-in-One HP PhotoSmart 6510e All-in-one no fax (I probably use a fax 3 times a year... it is nice to have but not an absolute requirement) I chose PhotoSmart over Office Jet as I do a lot of photo printing/copying. I do not currently have a wireless router, but looking ahead to when I trade computers. What is an absolute is: Printer must take card stock and must work with Vista (for the time being). I plan to talk with a HP rep about these two issues. Cost is basically the same on both...depending on whether it comes from HP or Best Buy. My last printer was an HP PhotoSmart All-in-One, was bought in '03, lasted 7 1/2 yrs. Any comments?

    3. Annette, I did use the first Intel Macbook and Windows will work. I didn't stay with it, gave the Mac to my son because it dawned on me if I wanted Windows I could do better using a PC. But if you are stuck with this nice gift, then consider using Windows on the computer so you have the best of all worlds. The iSheep absolutely refuse to acknowledge that there are very few available programs for free, so just keep looking for the Windows freebies and use them on the Windows side of the Mac. Any new computer is exciting and that in itself will give you pleasure. 3. Connie, your clearly written instructions did not work for me. When I clicked on resize, and pulled down to lower right, I found there was drawn a white line throughout the entire obit. Ever the optimist, I clicked on crop, and that was greyed out. I do appreciate your efforts! Thank you for taking time to instruct. Fred, Sr. -----Original Message----- From: gen-newbie-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gen-newbie-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Connie Sent: Monday, January 09, 2012 11:59 AM To: gen-newbie@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GN] How to print out as sized in Paint and how to enlarge in Word You should be able to crop the screen shot before you put it in the Word document. I rarely use Paint, but I took a screen shot of some elephants to find what to do: on the top toolbar in paint you should see crop, resize. rotate. I clicked on resize and then with the mouse at the upper left hand corner of what I want to keep, I pull down to the lower right hand corner and select what I want to keep and then click crop. Then I saved it to the desktop. Then I would open Word (I use WordPerfect, so I'm heading into unknown territory) and insert the newly saved picture/clipping from the desktop into the document. I'm sure you can resize it once it's in your document, by clicking on it (in WP that makes a box) and pulling on the corner handles. Does this make sense? Does it work? Connie Finally, with Word '07 documents, I select the text and change both font and font size with no problem; however, with the screen shot of the obit, Word will not permit me to select the item. Please explain how to do that as well. ******************** Gen-Newbie's website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~newbie/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GEN-NEWBIE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Fred Since you're using Outlook, maybe this. When you are typing a message, at the top there is a tab called "format text" If you click on that, you will see the same formatting as Word. One is a "paragraph" sign (reverse "P"), near the center. Click on that. Your dots and such should disappear. 3. Good Morning Fred, Have you tried using your Windows Live Photo Gallery. I use it all the time to crop and adjust colors and it works quite well with documents. I am not exactly sure that I am explaining this correctly but will give it a go. 1. Go to your Windows Live Photo Gallery and find your image then click on it. 2. The image should come up - 3. Look up right above the image and you will see and orange "Crop." icon. Click on the icon and it will give you the option to grab a little white block on the corners of the image. You can then drag those little white blocks in several directions until you have the part of the document you want. 2. Then go back to the orange crop icon and click on the bottom of it. You will note that above the image to the right it says close file. All you have to do is click on that "Close File" icon and your image will be saved and you can go back to where you have stored it - I imagine My Documents? Hope this works for you. 3. If you do not belong to the Legacy User Group you might want to join. I know there have been discussions on there about how to use Legacy on a Mac. I am sorry I did not pay much attention to those but I think there is a way to do that. Maybe just go to the Web Site for Legacy and search through the archives or their help menu. 3. My experience as a member of the iSheep is that there was only one genealogy program and it hadn't been upgraded for some time. Reunion. Whether it still exists or what its status is I don't know. I always thought I made a mistake overpaying for the Apple computer and I hated that there were next to no free programs available for it. I gave the laptop to my son along with all peripherals I had purchased. I bought my first Dell after giving away the laptop and have been with Dell until this year when I bought an Acer on a great sale. It works fine and I love the multitude of items available for PC's. I just bought the latest version of RootsMagic. Apple puts on classes for users. You might want to attend some. I might have liked the computer more if I had known what marvelous things it could do. I hooked up a TV tuner and used it primarily as a TV in the computer room. BTW, I love all other Apple products. I just don't care for the computers/operating systems. I love my iPad and iPods and use an iPhone. Elaine Life is lived forwards, but understood backwards.
