Some versions of FTM are backwards compatible, but I don't think the last 3 years are, and that's what I have. It looks like versions 5, 6 and 7 will do it. BUT from Ancestry.com: How do I share my Family Tree Maker files with someone using an older version of the program? ANSWER Family Tree Maker is backward-compatible . However, because each version of Family Tree Maker introduces changes to the database structure that were absent in previous versions, an older version of Family Tree Maker cannot open a file created in a newer version. Connie Connie ----- Original Message ----- Paula, I have a copy of Family Tree Maker 4.4 but I don't think it will go on Vista? Is there anyone that could walk me through it or have another solution?

I am hoping someone can help me out. I have a Family file which I believe is FTM V4. I am looking for someone who might be able to open it up for me. I had forgotten about having it as it is not really a direct family line for me. I recently found out it is a family line of my uncles wife who would very much like to see it. The gentleman who gave it to me is now deceased. I will be willing to pay reasonable cost to have this done. Any ideas?? Thanks Paula

There is an "IE Tab Plug-in" that you can use in Firefox, >Tools>Add-ons Should you need to use IE for something. Thats all I know about IE. I use Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera in that order. No idea, however, I paste into notepad first then re-copy and paste into genealogy program. I just keep an open 'Notepad' page open and use it for all just deleting when I get to the bottom of the page. This also automatically removes all the html format stuff as well. I have a question about the new.familysearch where there are many records. Why can not you copy and paste the words on the family search page any more? For instance on a marriage record of lets say Henry Braasch I once was able to highlight copy and paste it to notes on my genealogy program. Now I highlight, copy and then try to paste to my note and only the name appears. The whole highlighted part does not appear . Just wondering why I can't do this anymore. Thanks Joyce Ann

Thanks, Joy. Mack, remember that no answers usually mean no one is currently reading the list that has an answer. Give it some time. In the meantime, use Joy's suggestion and copy and paste. Do I understand correctly that links work in Firefox? Then why not set Firefox as your default browser and save worrying about IE9. I don't personally like Chrome and don't use it, but a lot of people do like it, and I think it offers Angry Bird which many want to use. I don't use Angry Bird either <big grin>. Yes, I have no problem when I click on a blue link in Firefox. I had a problem doing the things I wanted in IE8, so switched to Firefox and decided to stay with it, so I have not really used IE9, even though it is on this computer. I did a search and came up with the following. Maybe one of these will help you. If you cannot click on the link, do a copy and paste to see if one of these has any helps for you. One answer for the old email programs. It might also work with Win7. http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/qt/et_fix_links.htm Here is a Norton support answer, but I do not know if your antivirus is Norton, but there might be a clue there so you could check what this says. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/e2e4ce613b66167c88256d8e0076b032/c8d0a0cadee6477388256ea7006c69c9?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam You might check your security settings. I use Firefox for my browser and Thunderbird for email, but I have IE9 and I have my security set for medium-high and my privacy set to medium. I do not know for sure if this has anything to do with accessing the URLs or not, but it is worth trying, if yours are different. Joy On 1/19/2012 8:45 AM, mack165@juno.com wrote: > . Are you trying to click on the blue URLs from within IE9 or Chrome or from your email program? If it is the email program, what are you using. I know there used to be a setting somewhere, but I cannot seem to find it in Win7. Will try again and see if I can see it. Joy On 1/19/2012 8:45 AM, mack165@juno.com wrote: > .
