    3. Bottom line is Flash player will not work with the win8 basic version your are using. As far as putting XP on it,, I won't say it won't work, but I suspect the system board and other hardware might be a big problem if there are no XP drivers. I really don't think it is a viable option, and you would be better off upgrading the version of win 8 you are using. Am getting it customized pretty well to my liking except: I can't get flash to work in IE [9 enabled] and supposed to have the latest v11 flash for IE embedded as part of the OS. I even tried reinstalling from the website and it still is not recognized. FireFox 18.0.1 installed and works for browsing, but websites do not appear correctly, nor Gmail. There doesn't appear to be any styling associated, with background colors, icons, etc. Everything is pretty much text only. Often the text is overwritten so it is even difficult to read. JRE is updated, etc. I am thinking of trying to install my old XP on a separate partition and see if my old programs, including FireFox and Flash for IE & FF will work. Is anyone else having problems with MS's latest & greatest and does any one have any offerings of help? 1. [GN] Fwd: Walking the dog
    2. Add this to the humor or problems the Dream Airplanes are having. Sent with permission. ellen A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes. Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind. A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her guide dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight. He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, "Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind lady said, "No thanks, but maybe Buddy would like to stretch his legs." Picture this: All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a guide dog for the blind! Even worse, the pilot was wearing sunglasses! People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines! True story.

    3. Thanks! My dad knew all the players of the 40s, 50s, 60s but then got away from it a bit. He worked at jack Blank Pontiac in the late 50s/early 60s and Redskin & Senators players would sometimes come to our house to pick up cars after hours. He would not permit pictures or autographs, felt it was unprofessional. He told me a number of their names over the years but I didn't write them down....now I really wish I had! So I thought I couldn't mess it up anymore ,why not uninstalling and reinstalling IE8 from Microsoft website. It made a big differance. Only now some of the time it doesn't want to close from one web site to an other. except for that I have my PC back I could use some help with this problem.I think my luck has run out this time. 3. Linda: I think your problem is permissions,,,When you log into windows are you logging in with and administrator account? Is it password protected?? I would be willing to bet that auto start is disabled,, That is a feature that was changed since service pack 3 all the way back to XP. It was done to help combat malware from automatically installing itself especially from portable media IE: usb / CD DVD and other external devices. Even if you have crated a user account with administrator privileges' it will still not automatically start the device,,, The first thing to do is see if the devices can be seen in disk management..To do that, put one in a port. next type click on the globe at the bottom left hand side of you taskbar( that’s the start button) when the menu come up at the bottom is a search box,,type in computer management. in the next menu select disk management,,wait for it to load. See if you see you device there..If so we might have a corrupt INFcahe file or it might be just a simple reconfig for the auto play. I know some thumb drives come with preinstalled drivers, which may not be signed,,in those case sometimes just enabling auto play will work in others you have to remove the software and than windows will recognize then as a generic device and they will work,,,I metion this because it has happened more then once with sandisc devices..Let me know,,, George & the SixPack -----Original Message----- From: Linda Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2013 12:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GN] Thumb drive-Flash Drive Joy Thanks, My Husband bought a new think pad for Christmas it runs Window 7 Professional. My desk top abt 5 yrs old runs XP. 1. Re: [GN] Thumb drive-Flash Drive Joy Thanks,

    3. I have XP and some thumb drives won't work on my machine. They do work on hubby's Vista. I have a good supply of the older drives. Either way it is more than likely a driver issue,,Xp pro was finicky about drivers ,almost impossible to get a unsigned driver to install, even if it is generic,,,,never did like it, and still don't .It's only saving grace was a bit more security in the OS, which is a trade off for flexibility in use., Does the thumb drive work in the other system?? If so you will have to locate a usb driver that works with XP Pro,,If you forward the info on the USB drive and correct OS you are using I'll check my sources, but it is very possible that some lager capacity USB or newer usb devices won't work with XP Pro. Or, have you tried other things in that slot - to be sure that the slot itself is working? Just a thought. Joyce On 1/18/2013 3:32 PM, Linda wrote: > Thanks Joy, Apprecate the effort.
