    3. Hi Wayne, I was surprised when the box popped up that informed me that RR was not secure and had to check a box that stated I understood it was not secure. To be honest I am not sure about these g-mail problems I am having. There is a good chance that I haven't set up all the instructions correctly. If I keep having problems I am going to cancel the g-mail account and have to change my email - it's a darn nuisance! Hey, thanks! 3. Let me know if all goes well. In doing all this, I selected a setting that turned off the highlighting of new emails that came into Tbird, but I am not sure just what one it was. I messed around and got the highlighting back, but am not sure what one did the trick. Heck a Doodle!!! Hope that did not happen for you. :-) No, I have not found my deleted messages. 3. Thanks Jim, I looked and haven't been able to find a box with "leaves a copy of the message in g-mail." When I first set up g-mail it wouldn't let me POP to Thunderbird - It IMAP'd instead. I will go back and take a long hard look and see if I have missed leaving a copy of the message in g-mail. I have turned off the Auto-Expunge but wasn't on my computer yesterday so I am not sure if it has solved the problem or not. Sure hope so. Once the email has left gmail without this box being checked it is gone forever from gmail. 3. Yvonne -- I checked my settings under Gmail in Thunderbird and I do not find anything that would delete emails in both places. BUT---- When I go to Gmail on the web I did find the problem, I think -- MAYBE. :-) Open your Gmail account on the internet To the right of your Gmail screen, shows an icon for settings (like a lug nut?) Click on it and then click on settings in that list At the top are different links Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP link I use the IMAP, so under that section is an option: When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted: It had the Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server (Default) I changed it to Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server. Now, since I do not use the POP, I cannot see the options for that, but if you use POP, then check and see if there is a similar option. I also find in IMAP When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: the option is to Archive the message (default). Hope I have written all these things correctly. I have a tendency to go to fast sometimes. I am going to check that and see if I can find the ones that were deleted before. Will let you know what happens with my settings. 3. I've also deleted Java from my computer programs.  I'm currently running Avast! in place of MSE and I'm glad that I did.  On the first run it found that my FTM2012 program exe. was infected with a PUP virus.  I've been having problems with the program so I guess that explains it!  So now I'm going to check my external drive to see if any of those files are infected.  Then I guess I'll have to reinstall FTM and scan before I try it out. I have to blame this infection on MSE as I am very careful and run malware, spyware and antivirus programs every day.  MSE should have caught this.  It makes me sad that there are people out there who "enjoy" making all this extra work for computer users.   Cathy Champion     Fenton, MO 63026 (near St. Louis)   Make yourself familiar with the angels and behold them frequently in spirit; for without being seen, they are present with you.   - St. Francis De Sales ________________________________ From: ETM <[email protected]> To: Lists <[email protected]>; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Cc: Genealogy-Computers-Chat <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, January 24, 2013 4:11:32 AM Subject: [GN] JAVA I plan to follow the instructions at https://windowssecrets.com/newsletter/security-alert-remove-java-from-your-browsers/ Elaine ******************** Gen-Newbie's website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~newbie/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
