I think they both work well. I pop my gmail into my own mail program. I have used Thunderbird just to see how it works. Neither was a problem to set up or to maintain. I do not use Microsoft/Windows mail. Yvonne -- Waited for someone else to answer your question, but have not seen anything. I do not think you can remove them. I just ignore them. If you do not have the arrow checked (blacked) next to the grayed out Gmail listing, you will not see them. Remember that I have two addresses IMAPed into Thunderbird, so my folder listings might be different than yours. Good Morning to All, Is there anyway that I can remove the "Important" and "Starred" Folders from my Gmail Folder in Thunderbird? I don't know why I have had such a problem understanding Gmail. I read a couple of weeks ago that Gmail would decide which emails were important and would also place all emails in "All Mail." I don't mind the "All Mail" even though I also have email coming in under my Inbox as well. But! I really don't need Gmail to decide which emails are important to me. In my thinking that is just one more step I don't need to have to deal with. I have removed "All Mail" and "Important Mail" from my actual Gmail account but that did not change them from showing up in Thunderbird. Hey Guys - thanks! Yvonne

I also have had no problem without Java and I do use Ancestry. Just double-checked it now, searched, and then went to a record image, no problems. Hi, I decided to make a diary on my computer. I am having a huge problem with numbering the pages. I want to put the (number) at the top of each page. While I'm typing it out, all's in order. I save each page. When I go back to it, the numbers are NOT at the top of the page where I put them! The page numbers are correct, but they are not at the top of the page! This is just about driving me nuts! Please, how do I fix this, so the numbers stay put!! Thanks a bunch! Shalom, NancyT
Nancy, you need to tell us which program you’re using to write your diary. Instructions vary from program to program. Connie I decided to make a diary on my computer. I am having a huge problem with numbering the pages.
I am new to Office 2007, been using Office 2003. If I want to update and save a file in either Word or Excel under a different name, what do I click on under save as: Nothing is simple when I don't know the terms used. Nancy
What version is compatible with Firefox?? and how do you find out what you are using? Maybe mine is not the right version or I need an older FF. The last I remember seeing at one time was that I needed to install Google Chrome to be able to use Gmail, but I didn't want to as I have used FF for years. Dianna
in re: win 8/Gmail: Joy, Already tried all that, also tried installing themes via Stylish and no Themes I have tried work. I don't like any Gmail offers undersettings except colors. All I can get is a plain white page with blank boxes except 'more' appears in its box. The blank boxes will show text when hovered over. I can select boxes appearing before the messages, but no check shows, so if I make an error I won't know unless I check where it/they were supposed to go. To me it appears to be an imaging problem either in FF 18.0.1 or with WIndows 8 Dianna ....... Yes, I wish I knew how to find the version of Gmail. I have not been able to do that. All other programs have the version listed under Help/About --- Since you are not able to get the settings you want, maybe there is something in Win8? I cannot comment on that, as I have 7. Hi Guys, I am one of those who removed Java from my Windows 7. I have not had any problems downloading and reading the census on Ancestry. So, for me I do not need "Java" to use Ancestry. I noted in my Firefox that they automatically "Disabled" my Java. I just checked FireFox again and see the following note "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Pup's are not necessarily a virus or a trojan,or even malware.. The term was invented by McCafee to describe programs they didn't want to risk calling malware or AV due to litigation and possible libel suits. There are a number of things that will give you a pup warning, but from my experience most are benign and usually involve a feature in a program the user has installed that allows the exchange of data . Try going into Avast and and see if there is a spot to allow it to run. A prefered list or allow to run list .I think to many are jumping on this dump MSE thing. I'll wait till a couple of other sources confirm or expand on what has been reported,,To date MSE has been quick to respond to any problems, and knowing how many companies are quick to jump on even very small windows OS problems I view these reports with a skeptic eye. I also work on more systems in one week then most here will in their lifetime and so far have found nary a problem with MSE, and I have yet to find a better solution for AV protection that integrates as seamlessly with the MS OS nor have the number conflicts with other programs, Lastly part of the detailed report was critical of MSE not reporting some pups, and a weaker response to trojan behavior, MSE is not a primarily Trojan detection program and it was being compared to All-In One suites which included tojan protection.MSE is not alone in that. Even the much heralded MalWare Bytes ignores a lot of pups especially if the root program has up to date certification. If you are paranoid and want nothing to do with pups SuperAntiSpyware does a good job without a lot of problems. I don't recommend deleting JAVA,, you may have some perfectly normal programs that you use that use JAVA when you are offline, just turn off JAVA in the web browser, If you use IE as your browser go to Control panel and you should see a icon for the JAVA program, open it and select the security tab, take the check mark out of the box that says enable java in your browser. In win 7 you need to select the icon view if when you click on the control panel it says category view, from there it is the same as I stated before. Just my thoughts on way too many jumping the gun. I'm currently running Avast! in place of MSE and I'm glad that I did. On the first run it found that my FTM2012 program exe. was infected with a PUP virus. I've been having problems with the program so I guess that explains it! So now I'm going to check my external drive to see if any of those files are infected. Then I guess I'll have to reinstall FTM and scan before I try it out. I have to blame this infection on MSE as I am very careful and run malware, spyware and antivirus programs every day. MSE should have caught this. It makes me sad that there are people out there who "enjoy" making all this extra work for computer users. It is called archive and moves the mail to the "All Mail" folder found under the "more" button in the left column. The "Archive" is found in the gmail settings directly under the "auto-expunge on/off" and is the first selection and should have a green dot in it. Thanks, Jim. But we must be running two different versions of Gmail. Under More, all I have is: Chats -- Receipts -- Work -- Manage Labels -- Create New Label. My Archive folder is with the listing of all the other folders. Do you know where to find the version number of Gmail? If I did not have so many genealogy lists under the Gmail address, I would be tempted to use a different program for my emails. Have a good day. Still can not get any Gmail accounts to display properly. There appears to be no way to select Themes or display of buttons, etc. Scroll bars for message folders don't show until pass cursor over the "bar" position, etc. The only thing in inbox, etc showing in the check box square in a star for select messages. If I click to select no check shows, but actions work [delete, move to, etc] Is any one else having problems with Gmail & FireFox [latest] or has Google made FireFox unsupported and making us install Chrome to be able to use Gmail? As for Windows 8 upgrade to Pro, I see no advantage that would solve my problems. I cannot get Adobe Flash or any Flash player to work in FireFox nor Win 8. Flash is supposed to be embedded in IE10 enabling flash reading in new html5. I have tried removing and reinstalling the latest for both browsers, but neither works. I tried uninstalling in IE and reinstalling same version and even a beta 11.6 version but sys won't let me. I have not tried viewing census images at Anc.com, but it used to require Adobe Flash & its plugin be installed. Does this mean that I can no longer use Anc.com for the most oftern used service that I use? What's going on? Dianna

You might try the different settings and see if one of those helps you. On the left side under the red Gmail is a list of my different folders. For instance Inbox, Starred, and the others that Gmail sets up as well as some I have set up. You do need to put your cursor to the right of the list to find the scroll bar. If I understand the part that you wrote about the boxes and stars -- I can click on a box before a certain message and a check mark does appear. If I click on the star, the message is starred yellow. In the check box above the list of messages, you can select all - read - unread - etc. Not sure this will help, but I did not see another answer to your questions.
