    3. You are welcome! I think the story about the Rathbone's is fascinating also - no one remembers they were with the Lincoln's when Lincoln was shot. It really is tragic what happened to all the people who were in that box with Lincoln that infamous night........ 3. I'm posting general genealogy musing here in hopes some may be of interest...... :) Genealogy is also history. Knowing the social climate of the historical times of my ancestors puts my genealogy research into perspective.......... I am in process of reading "Thirty years a Slave, and Four Years in the White House" by Elizabeth Keckley, (dressmaker to Mary Todd Lincoln). Wiki's Keckley info is located here<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Keckly> and further information about her is located in another bio here.<http://www.burwellschool.org/resources/ElizabethKeckley.php> Elizabeth Keckley's (originally controversial) book is online: Thirty Years a Slave and Four Years in the White House<http://docsouth.unc.edu/neh/keckley/keckley.html#keckley91> When Lincoln was assassinated, who had they invited to join them in their box seats at Ford's Theater? Henry Rathbone and his finance', Clara Harris. What happened to them after Lincoln's assassination? How the Rathbone's ended up buried in Germany.<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Rathbone> And, last but not least, Chicago Historical Society has a very interesting website (Lincoln's assassination, Libby Prison, etc.) here: Lincoln<http://www.chicagohistory.org/wetwithblood/contents.htm>

    1. Re: [GN] AVG free 2013 edition have a quick scan?
    2. Joy Gulden
    3. When you installed AVG 2013, it should have put an icon on your task bar, or on the hidden tasks at the right bottom of the screen -- or you might have an icon for it on your desktop. Click on one, then on Options at the top right. There you can find the different scans that can be done. Full computer scan, what files you want scanned, or what folders you want scanned. I have not looked at all the options, as I THINK that when I updated to this version, it took my old settings. You might want to check the different options and set it to update it's files and scan at the times you want. Hope this is helpful. Joy On 2/10/2013 8:20 AM, [email protected] wrote: > Hi. 1. Re: [GN] Black And White negatives
    2. Woody Woodworth
    3. Regina, For your B&W negs larger than 35mm, your best solution is to buy a transparency scanner that will scan film negatives up to the size of negative that you have. I have a scanner that will scan negs up to 5x7. Had to do that for negatives from the 1930s. Here is a scanner that will do color 35mm negs and other film negs up to 2.3 inches by 8.6 inches (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-CanoScan-9000F-Color-Scanner/dp/B003JQLHEA/r ef=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360441109&sr=1-2&keywords=large+nega tive+scanner6cm x 22cm) The above scanner also has software that causes the scanner to scan in a manner that removes scratches and dust defects. You can use image software to turn the negative scan into a positive. There is a way to take pictures of negatives with a digital camera with fairly good results. I've done it before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RejaetB-g-o The key is having an even light distribution behind the negative when taking a picture of it.. I like to have the light diffusion material at least 3 to 6 inches behind the negative to make it well out of focus.
