    3. Good Morning Joyce, I have some Titus Connection through Alzenia Boatman.  I am very rusty on this line but if I remember correctly Thomas Titus married Alzenia Boatman in Nebraska. I will drag out my old notes and see what I have. I am not sure of the Thomas. I will get back. Yvonne Strong Arlington, WA

    3. While this may be something some would like to do (get our ancestry online to save forever), please remember that the list is only moving to a new server. We aren’t “disappearing forever”. The last day for these lists at Rootsweb is March 2nd. Rootsweb, at this time, says the archives will remain searchable, though we don’t know in what format they will be stored. We don’t even know that they will always be free. (Since it’s all owned by Ancestry) Again…I hope everyone joins us at groups.io and facebook…at least one of the two. Have a wonderful evening! 3. Susan is right. If Gen-Newbie will soon disappear, this is the time for one last roundup of our family heritage. If you - or someone you know - connects to any of my lines, I would love to know. So far as I know, my ancestors all arrived in the U.S. well before the Civil War. "So far as I know" because my DNA (I've been tested at both FamilyTreeDNA and AncestryDNA) shows a bunch of unexplained Irish cousins - some of whom are still in Ireland. Thus, there are some questions about whether I may have a previously unknown Irish maternal grandfather or great-grandfather. I'm glad I don't have to bring this up with my mother. My mother's family on her mother's side were a Knapp clan rooted in Dutchess and Orange Counties, NY, long before the Revolutionary War. Her on-the-record father's family (Francis Maines) were in northern New Jersey in the early 19th century. His wife was a German, Margaret Hoffman. Her four "we-think" grandparents all lived in Paterson, NJ. Her maternal grandfather was still another Irishman, William Kinsella, born in New York City in 1838. He had one brother and one sister. Her mother's only sibling AND her only first cousin both died in childhood, so there could be no official close kinships from that family. Still, "unofficial" could mean some genetic Irish cousins. Or another Irishman fathered my mother or her father? Oops. It happens in the best of families. On my father's side, the "immigrant ancestor" Morrow arrived in Bucks Co., PA, from Ireland about 1802, then moved to Belmont Co., OH, after the War of 1812. His kids (he had 15, most of whom had kids of their own) spread all over the Midwest, from Ohio to Kansas to Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. My paternal grandmother was a Thornburgh from Evansville, IN. My paternal great grandmothers were a Burlew from Mifflin Co., PA, and a Rhoads from Warrick Co., IN. 3. Hi fellow list members! Hello fellow subscribers! As most of you know by now, Rootsweb lists will be shutting down as of March 2nd. While this is quite sad to those of us who have been utilizing this service for many years, it isn't the end of the world. Many list owners are hoping to move their lists elsewhere. I have created a new list, on a new server, for this group. If you are interested in joining us on the new list please go to groups.io and sign up. Then you can join our group here: https://groups.io/g/Gen-Newbie If you can’t figure this one out, don’t worry. I’ll be sending an invite directly from groups.io in a few minutes. I have created an alternative Facebook Group, as well. If you are already on Facebook, just go to this link and click on Join Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/630601421097180/ If you have any questions or are having any trouble getting signed up for either group please feel free to message me at pcmom@aol.com I hope to see you all on the new lists! 3. Here's an alternate view. You have found a reference to some information in a particular book (say, in a citation). The book is not in a library near you. Say I happen to live near a library that has that particular "family history" book. I pay a "use fee" when I utilize the library. (e.g., the Filson Library in Louisville, KY, there is a $10/day research charge for non-members) You ask me to look up a particular piece of information when I'm at the library. I do it, making a copy of the page with my cell-phone and sending the image to you. Or, maybe I copy down the "facts" and send them to you. Stealing? Plagiarizing? Most would call that "fair use." You cannot "steal" facts. You cannot copyright "facts." You cannot plagiarize "facts." Historically, librarians have done this for people since "forever." Now, in the electronic world, this does not change. What does change is the agreement "you" have, or "I" have, with a particular electronic "archive" such as Fold3. If the "terms and conditions" prohibit such activity, then you are in conflict with those, generally called "terms of service" or "TOS." Fold3, now part of Ancestry.com, follows those conditions. https://www.ancestry.com/cs/legal/termsandconditions?hideHeader=1 You should read it yourself, but what appears to be in conflict here is: "With respect to Ancestry Content, you agree: To keep all copyright and other proprietary notices on any Ancestry Content you download or print; and Not to distribute, republish, or sell significant portions of any Ancestry Content. Public Domain Content: Some Ancestry Content may be in the public domain, and yet also subject to restrictions on reuse. We refer to Ancestry Content in the public domain as "Public Domain Content." You are free to use a small portion of individual photos and documents that are Public Domain Content, but you must obtain our written permission to use more than a small portion of these collections. If you have any questions about your use of Public Domain Content, please contact us." Sounds to me like the "fair use doctrine" at work here, but I'm not a lawyer (nor do I play one on TV), so am merely providing this information from the Ancestry public site. 3. The sad thing is Ancestry used to have these copies as a part of their membership fee. Another way to make money!
