I just remembered another case with the populous Butlers. Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormond, had at least 11 illegitimate children. I don't know how they were all taken care of, but one, Piers, was given property and some degree of power by his father. A tantalizing but unprovable theory is that his mother was someone important, possibly QE1.
