Welsh historian author Philip Griffith wrote in his 1981 paper "Welsh Students at Oxford, Cambridge, and Inns of Court" his claim that Richard Bulkley Principal of Tackley's Inn Oxford was Welsh. Also that 390 Welsh students were recorded between the 12th and 15th century.. (Tackley's Inn now named Bulkeley Hall is located at 106/107 High Street in Oxford.) I have yet to discover evidence of Richard Bulkley's ancestors -perhaps someone can assist? The Bulkley/Bulkeley family lines are well recorded in Cheshire commencing with Robert 1175/1225. There is no immediate Welsh connection. However there is recorded Roger de Bulkligh of Overton who presumably migrated from Cheshire to Bangor and Flintshire prior to 1280/1310. 1280/1310: Roger de Bulkligh request to Justice of Cheshire that he of Bangor and Flintshire within the parishes of Maelor Saesneg (Flintshire), and in the same vill of Knolton (Flintshire), and in the manor of Ellesmer (Flintshire) 24A land by tenants which land and services after the death of the said Roger ought to descend to the heirs according to the laws and customs of those parts - request that the aforesaid tenements might remain to the said Roger's wife etc, and prepared to pay 4/- annually above the aforesaid rent. (SC8/341/16098). Flintshire records closer to Richard Bulkley's period is the ratification estate of William Bulkeley parson Dynerth in the diocese of St Asaph 1390 (Patent Rolls). Paul Bulkley
