    1. Finally got my Lightfoot ancestry straightened out
    2. Darrel Hockley
    3. Hello All, Below is my line from the Lightfoot family of colonial Virginia who in turn descend from King Edward III Plantagenet of England (1312 to 1377) down to John Lightfoot (1596 to 1648). The line from King Edward III down to John Lightfoot is stated in various sources on Plantagenet descendants and the work of Mr. Larry W. Cates of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. For my line from John Lightfoot to the present I have had help from members of the Lightfoot Family Research Group on Facebook and I am related to several of these folks via DNA testing by Family Tree DNA of Houston, Texas, USA, GEDmatch.com, and My Heritage. Also I have found the Revolutionary War records for my ancestor Philip Lightfoot (ca 1751 to ca 1813) and his son-in-law William Bragg (1754 to 1832) who both served in the First Virginia Regiment at the same time. John Lightfoot (1596 to 1648) married Elizabeth Phillips (ca 1600 to 1683). John was a noted barrister of Gray's Inn. Their son: John LIghtfoot (1622 to 1686) married Elizabeth Tailor (died before 1686). John was a captain of the Royal Navy. About 1670 he and his two sons John and Phillip emigrated to Virginia. John Lightfoot (1648 to 1707) married Anne Goodrich (before 1652 to 1709). Their son: Sherwood Lightfoot Sr. (1684 to 1730) married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). Their son: Sherwood Lightfoot II (1714 to after 1765) married unknown. He appears to have lived in Charles City County, Virginia and later in life he moved to Burke County, Georgia where he died. Many records of Charles City County were destroyed in 1865 by Union soldiers during the Civil War making proofing family lore very difficult. Sherwood's son: Philip Lightfoot (ca 1751 to ca 1813) had a common law relationship with perhaps Elizabeth Howell (1748 to ca 1813), a mix race white and native Pamunkey Indian, whose family had served as indentured servants to Philip's grandfather Sherwood Lightfoot Sr. He served from 1777 to 1780 as an corporal in the First Virginia Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Due to an 1753 Virginia law, mix race marriages were forbidden. He appears to have lived and died in Charles City County, Virginia. In 1783 he had received a land warrant for 200 acres in what became Kentucky for his Revolutionary War service, but he never took up the land nor transferred or sold his warrant and in May of 1813 his children exchanged his warrant for pension monies. His daughter: Judith Lightfoot (1781 to 1847), legal surname was Howell, with William Benson (1759 to 1811), a widower of Bourbon County, Kentucky had the following son born out of wedlock: William Benson born on 14 May 1798. Y-DNA testing on recognised male line descendants of both Williams prove they were related closely. I believe that Judith and William Benson were engaged to be married until Mr. Benson discovered her illegitimate birth and native ancestry. He rejected Judith and the young William is not mentioned in his father's will of 1808. In July 1798 Judith was married to William Bragg (1754 to 1832) of Bourbon County, then a widower, the war time comrade of her father and what I believe was her guardian for the purpose of finding a husband in Kentucky (so the better to hide which branch of the Lightfoot family she came from). Eventually Judith and William and William Benson Jr. moved to Ross County, Ohio where they had further children. William Benson (1798 to 1860) married Elizabeth Davis (1801 to 1853). Elizabeth Benson (1840 to 1909) married William Edward Hyer (1837 to 1920). Rufus Edward Hyer (1861 to 1934) married Mary Martha Stittsworth (1866 to 1931). John Amos Hyer (1896 to 1976) married Marian Jung (Mary Young) (1896 to 1982). Florence Margaret Hyer (1920 to 2006) married Reginald John Hockley (1912 to 1973). Ronald Dale Hockley (1939 to 2010) married Audrey Jean Bladon (1936 to 2017). Darrel David Hockley (born 1956). Darrel D. 1. Re: Fraudulent Ancestry of [Mr.] Thomas Newberry (died 1636[/37]), of Dorchester, Massachusetts
    2. Jacob Newbury
    3. Hi Douglas, and others following this thread; I know it's been quite a while since there has been any activity on this thread about the ancestry of Thomas Newberry of Dorchester, MA, but things are quite different now. After researching into the depths of this topic alongside the larger connecting and origins of the Devon Newberys I have concluded Thomas' ancestry and for the first time, the ancestry of Richard Newbery who became a freeman of MA in 1645. Such research can be found detailed in a paper here; https://gum.co/Newbery. The paper tells of new research proving Thomas' ancestry to a further generation prior to William Newbery of Yarcombe who died in 1596. Additionally, while researching the abovementioned topics I have obtained a greater understanding of just how many Newbery families there were in the East Devon/West Dorset area. Furthermore, I have recently published a paper detailing original research telling how the Devonian Newberys descend from the Newburgh line. Which can be found here; https://gum.co/Newburgh. If you have any questions regarding this research don't hesitate to contact me. Kind regards, Jacob Newbury

    3. Thank you so much for this link. The IPM volume 1 I had downloaded is a 1806 publication which is set out very differently from the other IMP I have used but I thought it must be the only Vol 1 available. However your link shows another Vol 1 published in 1904 which I had missed somehow. Thanks again for your kindness in solving my problem. 3. I live in the old vicarage in Potton Bedfordshire. Modifications to the porch have just unearthed a wonderful gravestone of Edmund Halfhide (sometimes spelt Halfhyde). I have found the record that he died was buried on 2nd June 1691 and this ties up with the gravestone date of 30th May 1691. His age (in Latin) is inscribed as 68. His will is shown as in Cambridgeshire archives as R57/24/15(a) and you amongst others seem to be involved in a discussion around his children etc. I believe the will is not currently viewable as the archives are being moved to Ely where the new centre will open later this year. The last post on this topic is from 'David' earlier this year 2019 and I am unsure how this information gets to you David...I hope it does. What I would like to know is who exactly was Edmund Halfhide and what status did he have to be buried in the Church porch? regards, Nicholas Mayne

The first tribal Count of Vermandois I have been able to find was Leodegar, c. 484 CE. Later, one of Charles Martel¹s sons, Jerome (714-771), was Count of Vermandois and Abbott of St. Quentin de Monte. 1. Looking for the Boothes of Derbyshire, scions of the Booths of Barton circa 1500
    2. Helen Ryder
    3. I am trying to find the link between my ancestor Oliver Booth or Bothe of Derbyshire and the Booths of Barton in Lancashire. A number of pedigrees state that he is 'a scion of the Booths of Barton' but I am not sure how. A number of family trees have him as the son of John Booth and Anne Brereton but this is NOT true as per a reference in the will of Dorothy le Boteler (1499-1543), wife of John Booth (1491-1526) in the Wills of Lancashire and Cheshire. I know that Oliver married Elizabeth Hadfield of Whitfield near Glossop in probably about 1545, his son John Booth was born in 1553. Up until now I found the Booths of Barton who moved to lands in Derbyshire were Henry Booth of Arleston and his nephew Roger Booth of Sawley. I have now found that Dugdale's Visitation of Yorkshire has the descent of Charles Booth, son of Sir Raphe Booth of Barton and Catherine Stanley, who moved to Glossop and is more probably related to Oliver Booth (Oliver isn't noted in this pedigree but many younger sons weren't). Does anyone know where Raphe or Ralph Booth comes in the family Booths of Barton? A rough calculation of generations puts him around the late 1400s. Many thanks.

    3. Dear Sir: I am trying to establish an Easterling/Stradling connection as my 10GG was John Easterling, born in 1610 at either St. Donate or Dorset. The chapter 'The Rise of the Stradlings of St Donat's' from Welsh historian R.A. Griffiths' 1994 book Conquerors and Conquered in Medieval Wales that you referenced might be helpful in my research, and I noticed that you offered to fax it to someone on the website. 2. DARRYL E JASMER
    3. I have just started researching John Pabenham/Elizabeth Clifford. All the information posted has my head spinning. A lawsuit "brought in that time period by Margery de Criol's daughter, Elizabeth [de Clifford], widow of John de Pabenham, senior, against William Lovel and Margery his wife,..." So it would seem Elizabeth's maiden name was de Clifford. The will of Margery Criol (1313) names Elizabeth as her daughter. If Margery married John de Clifford after Nicholas Criol, why do all the records refer to her as "Margery Criol"? Wouldn't she be referred to as Margery de Clifford? With all the Margery's, couldn't someone try to simplify this with a linear pedigree?

Here is my earliest Woolley-Revell ancestry; Thomas Revell (ca 1429 to ca 1485) of Higham, Derbyshire married Alice Dowman. This couple had four sons. Their son: Richard Revell (ca. 1459 to ca 1530) married Maria de Lee. Their son: Thomas Revell of Shirland (died 1559) married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). Their daughter: Maria "Mary" Revell (born ca 1535) married John Woolley (ca 1534 to ca 1585). Their son: Adam Woolley (1558 to 1657) married on 1 October 1581 at Darley, Derbyshire to Grace Heywood (1559 to 1649). In some histories some say this couple both lived beyond 100 years of age. Their son: Rev'd Edward Woolley (1595 to 1628) rector at Crich, Derbyshire, married on 27 November 1616 at Matlock, Derbyshire to Mary Fritchley (1596 to 1627). Their son: Emmanuel Woolley (1625 to 1681) who settled at Newport, Rhode Island, British North America. Most family trees concerning Maria "Mary" Revell who married John Woolley above, make the mistake of having her being the daughter of Thomas Revell and Ann Eyre. That Thomas Revell is a descendant of Hugh Revell (ca. 1452 to 1504) of Carlingthwaite, Derbyshire, another son of Thomas Revell of Higham and Alice Dowman. This was cleared up in the work of Mike Clifford et al entitled "Part 4. The Revells of Derbyshire from ca. 1250 to ca. 1650", updated on March 5th, 2012 which is on the Net. 3. I just saw an old post on Rootsweb where Tony Ingham passed away back around 2012. I only recently found some of his old posts related to the Deyncourt family and have been wanting to contact him. I was disappointed to learn that he is no longer with us. for some reason my ISP does not seem to like Rootsweb mailing lists. I use to subscribed to many different lists but now I can only reveiw the posts of others in the archived messages. Hence my note to you. Would you happen to know of any one from the medieval group that might be researching the Deyncourt family (by any variation)? I am specifically interested in John Deyncourt who died in 1393. If you do know of anyone researching said Johh (or the Deyncourt family in general) I would appreciate it if you would pass my contact information along to them. Thanks.
