    1. Genealogical Research & Consulting for Philadelphia Families
    2. eXpertGenealogy
    3. More at http://expertgenealogy.com/?x=Kensington Historical & Genealogical Research & Consulting for Philadelphia Families, Businesses,& Institutions I offer genealogical and historical research in Philadelphia area repositories and search records on individuals, families, businesses, institutions, and organizations. I prepare genealogical and biographical sketches of your family members, company officers, institutional directors, or organizational officials. I also consult with you on your genealogical research for your Philadelphia ancestors and make myself available to photograph their tombstones, houses, or other structures where they might have lived, worked, or worshiped. I specialize in studies that combine Kensington and Fishtown history and genealogy in order to place those families, businesses, institutions, and organizations, within a local historical context, bringing them to life more fully then a generalist genealogist, or historian, can possibly do. Although, my specialty is in these Philadelphia neighborhoods, I am also quite capable of providing these same services for subjects in the whole of the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. For examples of my work contact me and I will send a narrative of a family history, biography, or business history, that I published, or was contracted for. I have an in-depth understanding of Philadelphia’s communities through many years of research and I am able to provide the historical context for your history that will make your unique story come alive. If you would rather write your own family, business, or institutional history, I could still be of value to you by placing your family, business, institution, or organization in context with an introductory historical chapter on Fishtown, or Kensington history. I can also fill in the already written reports that you have researched to enlarge and complete them. I am also available for consulting on those “brick walls” that you may have encountered along the way and if your project falls into my specialty area, it would be quite possible that I could break them down. If you need general historical research work that might be useful for archaeology, building, engineering, environment studies, the insurance business, urban planning, law, or real estate, I would be especially helpful with these historical neighborhoods of Fishtown and Kensington. I could also help those oral and cultural historians and other academic historians, who do not often venture north of Vine street and who might be interested in publishing work on these communities. My services are also offered to local and citywide non-profit agencies as well, that might be interested in the modern urban studies of Fishtown and Kensington in order to plan for their programming, or provide historical perspectives for grant writers when seeking funding.

Of the three periodicals which were originally devoted to Virginia genealogy and history, the William and Mary College Quarterly was the most scholarly. The five volumes offered here contain every family history article published in the Quarterly from 1892 to 1943, when genealogical contributions ceased. No fewer than 500 genealogies referencing over 100,000 individuals were published, and these, together with a substantial number of Bible records, appear in this CD in entirety, with an alphabetical index. Models of excellence, these genealogies are essential for any serious research in Virginia genealogy. Also included on this CD is Lothrop Withington's Virginia Gleanings, which contains abstracts of 17th- and 18th-century English wills and administrations relating to Virginia and Virginians. Bearing reference to heirs and issue, family members, property, bequests, places of residence, and dates of emigration, the "gleanings" shed light on the English origins of thousands of early Virginians.

Pendleton, Published 1920 - Bonus Book - The Captives of Abb’s Valley - A Legend of Frontier Life By James Moore Brown, 1884 171 pages, illustrated, searchable Requires Adobe Reader 5 or higher to View, Autoboot Menu for Easy Access $12.99 + $1.99 shipping and handling http://cgi.ebay.com/Tazewell-County-History-Southwest-Virginia-1745-1920_W0QQitemZ200266335416QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea0cdc4b8 Pendleton's tome is divided into six sections: (1) The Aboriginal Period, which focuses on the Pamunkeys, Chickahominy, and Mattapony in what would become Tazewell County, and their civilizations; (2) The Period of Discovery, which culminates with the settlement at Jamestown; (3) The Pioneer Period, which commences with the first settlements west of the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1732 and concludes with the creation of Tazewell County in 1799, encompassing the settlements launched in the Shenandoah, Roanoke, New River, Holston, and Clinch valleys, as well as in Kentucky; (4) The Ante-Bellum Period, from the organization of Russell, Wythe, and Tazewell counties to the onset of the Civil War; (5) The [Civil] War and Reconstruction Period; and (6) The Post Bellum Period, which emphasizes the development of Tazewell's mineral resources. The author's style is to interweave national history with local matters, as in his discussion of the Draper's Meadows massacre of 1756 in Tazewell during the French and Indian War. Woven into the narrative, genealogists will gladly learn, are essays and photographs of eminent citizens of Tazewell and the surrounding region. For example, appended to "The Pioneer Period" are sketches of the following families: Witten, Cecil, Bowen, Ward, Moore, Harman, Peery, Thompson, Harman, Barns, Gillespie, Wynne, Maxwell, Henry, Evans, Roark, Ingles, Wiley and Davidson, a number of whom were the victims of Indian massacres or the fortunate survivors of daring rescues from their captors. Similarly, appended to the chapter on the Civil War is a series of sketches devoted to Tazewell citizens who served as field and company officers in the Confederate Army, as well as a list of Tazewell casualties in the conflict, giving each soldier's unit and campaign where killed or wounded. The volume concludes with a list of Tazewell men who served in World War I, arranged by branch of service, and a name index to the volume's contents.Includes 80+ vintage photographs of the county, buildings and residents. To those endowed with keen perceptions, the magnifi- cent, intricate and wonderful handiwork of the All-wise is daily manifested, and always new, in the infinite variety of the floral world. “A number of years ago, the writer, being interested in the mythological legends of the Greeks and Romans, was frequently struck with the number of fabled gods and goddesses, and the various rural nymphs who attended them, that were transformed into a tree, shrub or flower, either to mitigate some sorrow, gratify revenge, or as a punishment for some breach of the laws supposed to govern the deities of that time. “Having made numerous memoranda of such legends, the love of flowers was sufficient to interest one in the general history of plants, their nativity, uses, the chief events in the history of each species, its cultivation and introduction into America. The "Floral Kingdom" is the mature outgrowth of such notes. In order to make the book pleasing to the general reader, it has been the endeavor to exclude all technical terms pertaining to the science of botany, except the mere classification of plants into families to show the relation of one plant to another.

"The reader of this pictorial is invited to look back to the beginning of Wise County as captured by professional photographers and family members. To a time when the hills and valleys of the country were thick with rhododendron and pats connected the miles between homes. Learn of the impact improved raods and the laying of the railroad tracks had on the people and the land. Look to the time before coal was the county's major industry and meet on these pages the people who worked on the farms, in brick factories, barrel mills and bottling companies. Cavaliers & Pioneers: Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents & Grants, 1623-66 (Genealogy) by: Nell Marion Nugent ISBN: 9780806302645 (0-8063-0264-X)0 Book Title: Cavaliers & Pioneers: Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents & Grants, Volume 1 - 1623-1666 Author: Nell Marion Nugent Binding: Hard Cover Copyright: 2004 Pages: 767 Size: 5.75 x 8.75 x 1.75 in. ************************************************************************ NEW- Unread Hardcover ************************************************************************ $49.95 + $4.95 shipping and handling http://cgi.ebay.com/Cavaliers-and-Pioneers-1623-166-Virginia-Genealogy_W0QQitemZ200453386682QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2eabf3f1ba This is one of the most outstanding records of early emigrants to Virginia. It records, under the name of the patentee or grantee, the earliest Virginia land grants and patents from 1623 to 1666, giving the number of acres, locations and dates of settlement, and names of family members, and it further provides references to marriages, wills, and other legal instruments. It also has the names of some thousands who were transported or brought over by the early settlers as "headrights." The index contains the names of about 20,000 persons. For anyone whose research takes them into seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century Virginia, Nell Marion Nugent's three-volume Cavaliers and Pioneers is an indispensable source. These abstracts of the records of the colonial land office cover the years from 1623 to 1666 (Volume 1), from 1666 to 1695 (Volume 2), and from 1695 to 1732 (Volume 3). Dennis Ray Hudgins, in collaboration with The Virginia Genealogical Society, has edited additional volumes under the same title which brings the series to 1774 and the end of the forty-two volume colonial patent book series. The abstract of each patent gives, in order, the name of the patentee, the number of acres in the patent, the county in which the land was situated at the time the patent was issued, the date of the patent, the book and page of recordation, a description of the location of the land, and, if applicable, the names of the persons on the basis of whose transportation the patent was due. Any additional information contained within the patent is also abstracted. The index includes all proper personal names as well as geographical designations. Patents issued for land in the Northern Neck, or Fairfax, Proprietary are not included in this series of records.
