    3. Hi Graham, I tried and see wether there are still Niosi's in Lipari nowadays, but it doesn't seem the case, unfortunately, otherwise you could've phoned them and ask if they knew something: <http://elenco.libero.it/elencotel/public/RisultatoComuni.jsp?nome=&cognome=niosi&provincia=ME&prov=MESSINA> Anyways, at your nearest Family History Center (see on <http://www.familysearch.org> ) you'll be able to find the following very helpful documents on microfilms: - Church registers from 1559 to 1913, containing baptisms, marriages and deaths - Civil registers from 1820 to 1910, with births, marriages, deaths and banns You'll find the names you're looking for, in there. As far as Giovanna is concerned, you'll be able to find her real surname by looking at the marriage papers for her and Antonio Raffaele. Also, the State Archive of Messina has all the documents for the Army Conscription Office for people born from 1840 to 1924, so also for Antonio Raffaele. These documents are very interesting as they tell the person's parents, address, physical description (height, complexion) and other various things. You can ask for a search at the State Archive's Director, Mr. Alfio Seminara, whose email is: [email protected] If you have problems with Italian, I'll be glad to translate your email to Italian. Hope it helps, Fabio On Sun, 16 May 2004 10:28:18 +0000 (UTC), [email protected] (grahame james) wrote: >Hello Everyone > >My name is Grahame James and I am new to this list and would like some >help please with the following please. > >Antonio Raffaele Born 14/9/1868 Lipari Italy and Died 4/12/1953 Lipari >Italy I would like to know who his parents were as theyb would have been >my grandfathers grandparents. > >Also Giovanna Niosi born 30/3/1864 Lipari Italy and died 9/5/1937 Lipari >Italy would also like to know who her parents were these also would have >been my grandfathers grandparents. > > >If any one could help I would be very grateful to you. > > >Kind Regards > >Grahame James
