sorry, your e-mail wouldn't work when I tried to reply. You e-mailed me the Vanella family in the 1920 census today. I wanted to start by saying thank you. I appreciate your time. Once you gave me this name, I went back to the 1900 census (just out of curiosity) and typed in that name again. I found what looks like Michael Vanella (agnello) with his parents and family, again in phila, ward 2. I'm a little confused..... Does this mean that my family name is Vanella and not Agnella? Is it possible that they screwed up the name in two different census'? I don't really know what my next step is now that this new name has popped up. I have a lookup out for Michael and Millie's marriage cert. in phila. in the hopes that it will have parent names on it but I don't know now if I should have asked for vanella instead. Any advice is appreciated. Laura Agnella hope you get this e-mail.

Hi Laura, Don't believe I can help you decide what the proper name is. It is possible the census enumerator or the individual who transcribed the census for the index screwed up the name in all of the censuses. I cannot read the image in 1900. In 1910 it is indexed as Agniello, in 1920 Vanella and in 1930 Agnello. In the 1910 census Michael and Millie are living with Millie's father who is indexed as Dominek Comadeca. You have requested the marriage certificate. Other records you need to search for are the death certificates which often have the parents names. If you know the dates of death look for their obituaries which will give the proper spellings. The 1930 census indicates Michael was naturalized. Check the naturalization records in Philadelphia. Have you looked for the family on Ellis Island. The 1910 census indicates Michael arrived in the U.S. in 1904, however, the 1920 and 1930 censuses indicate 1900. Did Michael and Millie have Social Security Numbers. If so, you can request information from the Social Security Administration. At this point, I don't have any other recommendations.
