    2. Hello, Just a quick question: Is there a census in Italy? I found my relatives in the 1930 US census and in the 1910. They don't however, seem to exist in the 1920. Being that the husband was born in Italy, I thought maybe he had taken them there and that would explain why they seem to have "disappeared" for the 1920 census. Is there a way to check the Italy census if there is one? If anyone has it on CD or has other access, I would really appreciate the help. Here are the names just in case: Thanks in advance. Michael Agnella/o: would be about 33 in 1920. Born in Italy Millie/Mildred : wife - would be 32 Children: Joseph, Angelo, Frank, Mary, Carrie Thanks again, Laura Agnella

Can't answer your question about a census in Italy. However, please post where you found your family in 1910 and 1930. Perhaps they were just misnamed in 1920. Mike

I found the family in 1910 and 1930 in Philadelphia. They are still living in Philadelphia in 1920 as well. They are indexed incorrectly as follows: 1920 United States Federal Census Name Home in 1920 (City,County,State) Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Race Michael Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1888 Italy White Millie Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1890 Pennsylvania White Carrie Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1907 Pennsylvania White Joie Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1911 Pennsylvania White Mary Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1913 Pennsylvania White Angelo Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1916 Pennsylvania White Frankie Vanella Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania abt 1918 Pennsylvania White Image Source: Year: 1920; Census Place: Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Roll: T625_1615; Pages: 5B and 6A; Enumeration District: 97; Images: 189B and 190A If you do not have access to the census images please let me know and I will email the image to you. 3. My references tell me the first census was in 1871 and was taken every ten years. The same source says the early censuses were not very useful, identifying only the head of household and giving headcount of other family members. It wasn't until the 20th century the censuses had better information.
