List of all Taroni's on the current Italian phone directory: <http://elenco.libero.it/elenco/regioni.jsp?cognome=taroni> It looks like Como is one of the places where Taroni's are, so your family legend could well be true. do you know this website? <http://taroni.free.fr/genealogie/> It says lots of interesting information about Taroni families. According to the 1881 census he was born in 1820 in Italy, as you already know. His job is licenced victualler. Is this a similiar to a landlord? I just ask out of curiosity. Also in there there's a dwelling stret address: 42 Liddell Street. Have you tried and see in local church or civil archives (I'm not familiar with British archives) wether you could find a marriage act, a birth act for his child(ren) or a death act, his or his wife's ? Maybe in one of them there's a clearer indication of where in Italy Gaetano was from. I've found a reference to him getting married in 1848. Hi Ray, in 1861 census are 2 Gaetano: 1.Gaetano Tarone abt 1817 location, Italy relationship city Durham 2.Gaetars Tarone abt 1812 location, Italy relationship city Warwickshire The surname I think that was mistaken(Taroni right) if you can see this records, perhaps are other info about right birthplace... the Como lake area is most right... but it are many Municipalities... so is necessary to find more in UK before... just a suggestion, regards, suanj
