Anyways I trust your findings, so I guess there is a Murcano island near Murano. Unfortunately, no Murano's are left in Italy, at least judging from the phone directories and from the web search engines. Just out of curiosity, has the Murcano surname remained the same in Greek or has it evolved to a Greeker form ? :)
The name Murcano in Greek is Murtzano. The names Murcano and Mauro have the name roots. The name can be found in Crete, a Venetian colony 1207-1669. Crete was "exporting" wine to Venice. My guess is that the Venetians brought Glassblowers from Murcano to produce the glass bottles ("balloons") for the wine. Just a guess. If there is no Murcano than I am wrong.
