Yes, there are lots of Carbone in Genua. As his marriage certificate let us know he was born after 1860, you should try and contact Genua's Comune and ask them for a historical search of your ancestor in their registers. There are two kind of registers. The Anagrafe ones where you can find information about where a family was living, the head of the house and all the people living with him at a certain time, and the Stato Civile, where you can find registrations for births, marriages, deaths and so on. I guess you should try and search for your ancestor's birth act. Alas, Carbone is a very common surname in Genua, so look out for people sharing the same name of your ancestor. Even as we talk, there are five Carlo Carbone on Genua's phone directory. About the Extracerra surname, I don't think she was Italian. The surname probably got distorted when she migrated. That's just my opinion, though. Catalina in Italy is Caterina or (once) Catarina. Anyways, if you can find his birth act, you'll find the answer to all of your questions ;) Here is the homepage of Comune di Genova: http://www.comune.genova.it/welcome.htm Hope it helps, Ciao, Fabio
