Firstly Frank reported a whole word, without separation (an ancient italian would write ce [space] fame). Secondly " c'e' " is an elision of " ci e ' ". O don't think ancient italians forget the apostrophe, always used to remember the cancelled vowel, and I think it is improbable that "ce" means "ci" of modern dialects. We can be sure only reading the whole prhase, to see the context. ciao cicero
