My great grandmother's name is listed as Pellegrina Viaggi but in other records, it is Maria. Could Pellegrina have been her mother's maiden name and is it a common first name? I am also researching Bocchi. The only information I can find on documents is Massa Carrara and Tuscany. I think it must a small town near Massa Carrara as I cannot find any information. Is anyone researching these names?
Pellegrina in italian can be first name but also family name. Pellegrini in italian can be family name only. You can find the distribution of family names in italia regions to : http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/ Write the family name on top left where there is a form named "cognome" (cognome = family name) You can see "Pellegrina" is an unusual family name (easier you find it as first name). Instead "Pellegrini" is a very common family name (never first name). ciao Rose Langan wrote: > My great grandmother's name is listed as Pellegrina Viaggi but in > other records, it is Maria. > > Could Pellegrina have been her mother's maiden name and is it a > common first name? > > I am also researching Bocchi.
