What > information are they likely to provide? > > Thanks, > > Jane you would write to the archivio di stato within the province your great grand was from. i also understand and i maybe incorrect that the info from military goes back to the comune where the person was born. i hope someone can verify this. the document is very informative with personal status such as where born, date, parents, color eyes, hair, height, distinguising marks and so forth. also passport info whether the person made trips outside italy of which this person did to the usa twice 1908 and 1911. there is a section of the document which i believe is for special medals, awards, decorations, etc. the main document or body of contains the events whilein the military where assigned, regiments, etc and dates. it is difficult to read and/or translate as it is handwritten. of course it also has the military seal and the "captain's" signature, etc. i hope this helps you....barb
